| ADVENTURELAND Magic Kingdom Disney World Adventureland,
from the scrubbed brick, manicured lawns, and meticulously pruned trees of
the Central Plaza, an artfully dilapidated wooden bridge leads to
Adventureland, Disney’s version of Jungle fever. The landscape artists
went wild here: South African Cape honeysuckle droops; Brazilian
bougainvillea drapes; Mexican flame vines cling; plants clone; and three
different varieties of palm trees away, all creating a seemingly
spontaneous mess. The bright, all-American, sing-along tunes that fill the
air along Main Street and Central Plaza
are replaced by the recorded repetitions of trumpeting elephants, pounding
drums, and squawking parrots. The architecture is an eclectic mishmash of
the best of Thailand, the Caribbean, Africa, and Polynesia, arranged in a
inspired disorder that recalls comic-book fantasies of far-off places. The
message is the though natives may be restless, the kids are all right. The
Adventureland here is divided into two main sub-areas, one being the
Arabian Village and the other one being Caribbean Plaza, which is home to
Pirates of the Caribbean. Other attractions that distinguish it from the
others are the Magic Carpets of Aladdin spinner ride and the Enchanted
Tiki Room (Under New Management), which now features Iago (from Disney's
Aladdin) and Zazu (from The Lion King) as additional hosts. The transition
between the cartoon-Arabia and Caribbean occurs seamlessly. A thrill ride
called Fire Mountain was envisioned for the land a while back but due to
lack of space it was never built.
