Disney Cruise Line ships are the first locations in the world where guests can ride and experience the Segway™ Human Transporter (HT).
This innovative short-distance transportation technology can be experienced firsthand by guests, ages 16 and older, aboard the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder cruise ships, as well as at Disney’s private Bahamian island, Castaway Cay.
Available on each day of Disney’s three-, four- and seven-night cruise vacations, guests receive a brief introduction on how to operate the Segway HT before maneuvering it around a specially designed agility course at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Deck onboard or dockside at Castaway Cay.
At other times, the Segway HT is used by the ship’s captain and officers to efficiently travel across the 964-foot-long ships, each featuring 11 passenger decks of theaters, age-specific areas and unique dining locations.
Castaway Cay -- a 1,000-acre tropical island visited three times a week by Disney ships -- provides yet another practical application for the Segway HT, allowing officers to efficiently travel between different beaches reserved for families, adults or teens.
The Segway HT is the world’s first self-balancing human transporter that allows people to go anywhere a person can walk. Its advanced technology uses gyroscopes and tilt sensors to emulate human balance. When a person leans slightly forward, the Segway HT moves forward. When leaning back, the Segway HT moves back. Riders can comfortably cruise at seven miles per hour, which is nearly three times walking speed with a distance that ranges from 11 to 17 miles on a single charge.
Disney Cruise Line offers guests an exciting new way to vacation with Disney. In addition to seven-night Caribbean cruise vacations aboard the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder offers one-of-a-kind land and sea vacations that combine the fun and excitement of the Walt Disney World Resort with a three- or four-night Disney Cruise Line voyage to the Bahamas.
