We are taking our first Disney Cruise ever in April. After disembarking the ship, which I believe is around 9:00 AM, could we tour the Kennedy Space Center and catch a later Disney Cruiseline bus to the airport? Our flight doesn't leave until 6:15 PM.

I doubt it. The visitor center at KSC is not close to port. It would proably be best to rent a car at port and drive to KSC then back to the airport for your flight. Hertz and Thrifty are close by to the port and both run shuttles to and from the port.
EDIT: I was out in this area yesterday and also found out there is a Budget and Avis in the area as well. I'm not sure if they run shuttles but I would think so. Also for anyone looking into this I recomened renting a GPS. There is a quick route to KSC however its difficult to do off of a map, and if you make a wrong turn you will be approaching a nasa security booth.

I'm not too sure how long the busses run from port to be honest. As everybody needs to be off no later than 10 am(?) the busses fill up and head out. Then fill up on the other end to bring the new passengers in for the next cruise. We were on the ship by noon.
You could always spend some time at Downtown Disney.

Hi there. Last October we disembarked the Disney Magic and drove over to spend the day at KSC. Like 10 min said, it is a much longer drive from the cruise terminal than you might think, and it is a bit "out of the way". It is a great way to spend most of the day before your flight - that's exactly what we did, but I suspect it would be wise if you hired a car just for that day.
