We have never done anything like this. Im not sure about these things swimming around me and then me touching them. But It seems like I cant miss this experience.

Please tell me about anything you can think of that involves this experience. Things we should do, not do, if its worth the money. Any special touches they add to make it worth it?

This is our first Disney cruise and will be all of my families first time in the ocean except for our feet.

Oh my kids are both going to be 8 if that matters. Thanks for any help.

I have watched the Disney Cruise DVD and they have a part on it about this. They train the Stingrays to come to the Mickey spot in the water (black cutout) and the food is on the palm of your hand. They also make it clear they cut and trim the barbs off the tails of them.

Best thing to do for people who dont Scuba Dive is the Shark Encounter at Typhoon Lagoon. You swim at the top of the water with small sharks down below you about 10-12 feet down. Really cool for the kids. Nothing like me doing my check out dives 50 feet under water and seeing a 5 foot Nurse Shark about 8 feet from me. Some people freaked out and I just swam along and watched it swim next to me. Its so peaceful under water.

Hi! We did the Stingray encounter in August, 2006. It was really great to be able to be in the water with the rays. They take some time at the beginning and teach you about them and then you get in the water with them. Most of it is in really shallow water. You get the chance to feed them and interact with them.

It is a little creepy when they swim by you because their fins brush up against you. But it's kind of cool too. My 8 year old son was scared by them and wouldn't get in the water with them......that was a really expensive sand castle he built that day! ;-)

I think it's definately worth the $$. Give it a try!

If you can, try to find an aquarium near you that my have a stingray pool where you can reach in and touch them. Don't know where you live, but the mystic aquarium in ct. has one. That way they could learn about the animals beforehand and understand that they are really docile animals. I would go for it. You only live once. I am planning on doing the dive in the epcot tank and I am not a big fan of sharks but I figured disney must feed them well and god forbid anything happened, my family would be set for life>
