Orignally we were thinking of Jan '10 but now I'm considering going in Nov '09. This cruise is to be our honeymoon. We're getting married in Nov but was going to wait until Jan (when vacation starts over at work!) to go. I've found a thread that is discussing the best time to go so I'll keep an eye on that.
We're planning on a Cat 7 room and the 7 night Western Caribbean cruise. I do have a question about the excursions in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. If I book an excursion that's only a few hours long, can I book a second one behind it, as long as it's only a few hours long as well? Or should I just do the first excursion and try and do the other things on our own.
We were both in the navy so figuring out transportation and such in other countries isn't new to us so we're thinking that one excursion and then complete the day on our own would be fine, I just don't know the time situation or how hard things are to get to.
I'm sure I'll tons more questions, and I do realize it's almost 2 years away but I feel you can never be too prepared! |
Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding and Disney Cruise. I'm sure that the time will fly by!
Last October we did the Western Caribbean Cruise. In Grand Cayman, I chose the Seven-mile beach break with my parents, whilst my boys chose the shipwreck snorkell. Both were wonderful and very well organised (you would expect nothing less from Disney). I felt that the beach break was just long enough for us to enjoy the beach and the sea without being over-exposed to the sun. We met up with the boys for some shopping after both our trips.
I can see no reason why you could not do two trips, as long as the times don't clash. Remember also that the meeting spots for the trips are usually on board the Magic, which means that you would have to go back on board to meet up for your next trip, and in Grand Cayman you have to take a tender to and from the ship. This does not take long, but you will need to take it into consideration. The Disney excursions are not cheap and you don't want to miss your rendevous and waste your money.
In 2004 we did a snorkelling trip in Cozumel, which was great. Last year we decided not to book anything and just went for a stroll, which proved to be the best decision as it absolutely poured with rain. We went back on board and played shuffleboard and had a great time. Cozumel is certainly not my favourite stop of the cruise and if I went again and did not chose an excursion, I probably would not leave the ship, but I would take advantage of the on-board facilities without all the people. However, if you do decide to do your own thing, there are LOADS of people at the end of the gangplank who are selling trips etc. so I don't think you will have a problem getting around.
I hope you have a fantastic time. I have left two trip reports of both our cruises, which you might find answer some more questions that you might have.
