Hey my friend from across the pond! Don't worry too much about hurricanes and central florida. YES it can happen. YES it happened in 05-06 and it was bad. HOWEVER, statistically speaking, we won't get hit for another 100 years. So are you a betting bunch?
Being from Gloucester originally and now living in Central Florida, I say go for it!
Here is what happens if a hurricane approaches:
the ship may leave at a different time - or from a different place - if there is an approaching hurricane - keep an eye on the forecast and keep an ear out for any changes.
You may be asked to to go Ft Lauderdale to board your cruise - this is where insurance helps - they can get you there.
The boat is big and fast - it can stay out of harms way. If a storm is in Ft laud and Cape Canaveral or both are unsafe -they may keep you at sea a day or two longer or they will go to another state. Again this is where insurance can really be a big help. But they won't just leave you there - they help you make arrangements.
Keep in mind the US loves it tourists and usually they are taken care of - just keep listening to the news and even call the news station if you are stuck or unsure of what to do.
It is very unlikely we will get hit again soon - but it is possible. My family came to visit the day before Charlie and were stuck in the hotel room for days - but it all worked out and we looked at it as an adventure and a chance to tell stories!
yea i wouldn't worry. i mean, what's the point in going then? when else are you gonna take it? im going this september! oober excited! :-D

we too will be traveling to WDW in september and i am a little worried that major weather will hit but i am praying that all goes well. disney is all about pleasing the customer(at least i would hope so) and they will make the best out of bad times. its not like i am not used to the hurricane strength winds for those that live in the tri state area do you remember the wind storm of 2008 most of it due it IKE. that was one crazy day i was at X fest an outdoor rock concert and they had to shut down early driving back home was crazy with the roads covered with tree limbs. the only damage we suffered was the loss of half our tree out front. it is now a 10 foot tree stump(the part that broke off had become nice fire wood lol)
We nearly always travel to WDW in September as its my husbands birthday, and we've been out there for I think Floyd and then Charley, I think that was the one that closed the theme parks for the day. We spent one of the holiday in the hotel as we were told too, but apart from that Disney must have worked their magic as the following day you would have hardly known anything had happened. It was amazing! Plus for the cruise side of things, the monitor the weather so far ahead, if there was going to be a problem they would make alternative plans in plenty of time. I would say, book your holiday and have a great time!

I look at things this way, this is Disney's business, they will take charge and do what needs to be done for the safety of not only their ship, but the people on board or those about to board. The same goes for the parks, afterall that is what they do. Will I worry? Nope! Will I be prepared and take things with me for my own comfort? You bet! I will not let worries about weather spoil my trip.
I say be prepared, then sit back and enjoy enjoy enjoy!

I lived just outside of WDW when the three storms hit central Florida
....what a stinkin experience!!!
Anyways...
I went on a cruise right after a hurricane went through the area in Oct 2003 ....the worst that happened to us was that our day at Castaway Cay was cut short due to lots of rain. It was a bummer but the CMs did a great job helping to get guests back to the ship where they had activities planned on board for all ages
