Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

Hi all!

It's been awhile since I've been to TD and I must say it's good to be back and read all of your happy posts

I just got back from a Carnival Cruise to the Caribbean (my second) and I saw the Disney Magic at the Port in Cozumel. This got me extremely excited for the Disney cruise my family has booked for June! I was just wondering if any of you had cruised on a different cruise line and if you had any comments on how the Lines compared? While I've very much enjoyed my Carnival cruises, I must say I'm expecting a much better experience with the Disney Cruise Line.

Thanks all!

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

Doesnt that big blue ship look great sitting there? Kinda makes you jealous your not on it and your on someone elses ship. I have been on 3 Disney Cruises and wouldnt go on any other one. When a cast member remembers you by name from a previous cruise especially with as many guests that they see. Now thats something! Yes its happened with us and with more than one castmember, many actually.

Personally I cant speak about another cruise lines as I have only been on Disney. My wife however when she was younger has been on a couple of the others and said that Disney's castmembers go out of their way compaired to the other cruise lines.

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

Hi There Everyone,
I can imagine I seem like a stranger to all of you...it's only been 3 yrs since I joined. Trouble is I haven't posted at all ~but I'm back. You are so lucky! I think.

I've been on one Disney Cruise and looking forward to my second in Dec. '09.
My DF (on other cruise lines) mentioned DCL staterooms are much larger, friends have told me they don't announce your name as you come aboard the ship as they do on DCL.
They treat you like royalty. I thought I died and went to heaven. When it came time to leave the ship to go home, I wanted to be a stow away.
The other cruise lines may be cheaper but you get what you pay for. DISNEY CRUISE LINE is worth every penny you pay for!

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

Hi, I recently went on a "moms only" cruise on RC and I am going on my 4th Disney cruise June 6th.

I have to say Disney does it better and I will never bring my 9 year old daughter on any other cruise. On RC - there was too much drinking and bad behavior - from bad language all around to one girl pulling down her bathing suit and using the area in front of the elevator as her personal bathroom! There were too many drunk people and not enough kids areas to keep it separated.

I was not impressed with the food nor with the service. It seemed to me most waiters were worried about tips and sales - not taking care of guests. On Disney the staff appeared to really want to make your trip magical!

The rooms were not as clean (I was on an older RC ship) and I did not feel as carefree.

Absybabsy,
Thanks for posting your experience. I have never cruised and I would like to in the next year or two. I am looking at Disney cruises so my daughter is having fun and is well taken care of. I was considering a different cruise line because they are cheaper, but Disney always has such great service I had a feeling it was worth a bit more.

As for the heavy drinking, even if I didn't have a child, this makes me want to consider Disney. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a drink or two with dinner, but being surrounded by total strangers out of their minds is not my idea of relaxing.

I guess I can only check out Disney deals

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

I've been on a Carnival Cruise and 2 Disney Cruise and I much prefer the Disney Cruises. The Disney Cruise was a lot more enjoyable and the atmosphere a lot more laid back and relaxed. The Carnival Cruise was still a good experience but I think it focuses on an older age group, more young adults than families.

I'm going on the Independance in July, which is a Royal Carribbean ship, so I'll see how that compares to Disney

Agree, if you are a family group, Disney cruise would be a better choice.

Thanks for asking this Mandy. I'm a big cruise fan and have been wondering this myself. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

I've been on 1 Carnival cruise (NEVER again), 1 Royal Caribbean, 3 Princess, and my 5th Disney cruise is in less than a week. Disney is far and above superior. Carnival is nothing more than one big party....IMHO. Royal Caribbean is nice. Princess has beautiful ships. Disney is the complete package. The food is superior, the ships are the most unique on the oceans, and the entertainment is superior. No one does it better. The crews on Disney know the true definition of service and they pay attention to every detail. OK< I could go on and on but I won't. I do cruise other lines but I will always go back to Disney. We usually rebook right as we board or within an hour of boarding, even before we have lunch! And don't worry about kids. There's so much for them to do that you never see them!

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

Any adults only travel Disney Cruise line. I am not against the children I enjoy watching them but I do not have young children. I am a Disney nut so I would love to try their cruise line.

Re: Disney Cruise vs. Other Cruises

My hubby & I do not have little children. Ours are grown up... well, maybe. We do not travel with children. We are in our late 50s. Friday we leave for our 5th Disney cruise. You will see children on the ship. They don't have time for adults. They are too busy having fun with their programs. It's awesome. In fact, on our first Disney cruise our cabin was located on the deck that housed the kids programs. We never saw or heard kids. I couldn't believe it. Disney has done a great job catering to adult cruisers. It's much different than on other cruise lines. Give it a try!
