Disney announces closing of Stitch’s SuperSonic Celebration
Looks like Stitch no longer has anything to celebrate as Disney announces the cancellation of Galaxy Day at the Magic Kingdom Park in Central Florida. Stitch’s SuperSonic Celebration debuted only this past May at the Walt Disney World Resorts is on its way to being a part of the company’s history.
According to a report in the Orlando Business Journal, Stitch’s SuperSonic Celebration will perform for the last time on June 27. There are no comments from Disney as to why this show is already on the chopping block. Some speculation in Disney chat rooms and forums, there is an issue with the wait for the show to begin. There is not a lot of seating or shade and the Florida heat, especially now that it is summer, can be a bit unbearable while waiting.
I went to see the show when it first debuted. Though it was fun, entertaining and not the worst show I have seen, it was not one of the best. The fact that the show is not drawing the attention Disney had hoped for could be one of the many reasons I am sure the company has for this cancellation.
So what is planned for the stage, which is located between Carousel of Progress and Space Mountain in Tomorrowland? No announcements have been made yet. That is a lot of blank space, I am sure Disney has their plans.
Farewell Stitch, it was fun while it lasted. Let us wait and see what will replace it!

Indeed!
Mind you, having seen it, I can understand why.
It's unlike a lot of the Disney shows in that, whilst it seems hugely enjoyable for kids, it's seriously corny (and frankly, not very good) for adults.
I'll be interested to see what opens there next - and more importantly when it opens. Might be a good indicator of Disney's development budget in the current climate.

Wow, that was quick! But I don't think the canning can be blamed on the sun. People wait for the parades and other shows, while standing in the sun.

It's definitely corny although obvioulsy we're not the show's target audience! The kids seemed to love it although I was surprised at how bad it was - purely because most other "kids" shows at WDW can be enjoyed just as much by adults as well.
This stage seems to be a bit of a non-event at WDW. I've never seen it used to great effect in the 15 years that we've been going there.
I wonder if they would be better knocking the stage down completely and putting a new attraction there. Maybe a Skyway station (hint hint!).

The stage the show was performed on was built just for the show. The Galaxy Theater stage was knocked down (that's the stage where Twas was performed during the Christmas holiday, and where school groups would perform).

May be a dumb question, but can that stage now be used for any show, or was there something specific about it for the Stitch show? It'd be a shame to have all that money put to waste.

I'm not too surprised... that part of the park has had many stage shows, and they never seem to last. Maybe they should put something else there? I think people forget that there are shows back there. That's just my two cents...

I believe the stage was built specifically for the show. However, I'm sure they can come up with something for the stage.

Re: Another attraction bites the dust: Disney announces closing of ...
It hadn't occurred to me that this was a new stage - I kind of assumed that as it was a stage where the old stage was, it was the same one (if you see what I mean!).
I would have though Disney's imagineers would have had the foresight to realise there was no shade there so I don't think that's the real reason for the show's closure.
I guess we'll never know the real reason - but I can't wait to see what goes in there instead.
