Shopping Adventures at WDW

I found some fun things to share with our members

Walt Disney World Resort Brimming With Shopping Adventures

How about a $14,000 Wurlitzer Juke Box?

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- "Hard-to-finds" and "one-of-a-kinds" abound at Walt Disney World Resort -- from the exclusive to the extraordinary -- as savvy shoppers discover a treasure trove of unique merchandise in the dazzling array of shops and eclectic boutiques.
From museum-quality memorabilia to handcrafted, wearable art, guests searching for distinctive merchandise find a world of shopping throughout the 40-square-mile Vacation Kingdom.

Some highlights include:

Celebrities, Memorabilia and Nostalgia, Oh My!
Starabilia's, located at Downtown Disney West Side, is a 2,000-square-foot gallery that features nostalgic items including music, movie, political and historical memorabilia. With an ever-changing inventory, shoppers never know what to expect. In fact, more than 1,000 pieces of original memorabilia are available at any given time.

Among the recent "finds":

A framed photo of the U.S. Capitol signed by 11 presidents, starting with Harry S. Truman and continuing through George W. Bush for $12,950.

For the hard-to-buy-for baseball fan, Starabilia's offers a dugout-full of bats, autographed by some of the league's greats, including one signed by Lou Gehrig for $8,995.

A baseball signed by Martin Luther King, Jr., framed in gold, complete with photos and a plaque for $3,995.

Reach for the Stars

At nearby Disney-MGM Studios, movie memorabilia takes center stage at Sid Cahuenga's One-of-a-Kind, a '20s-styled bungalow-turned-mercantile on Hollywood Boulevard. Here, amidst the autograph-lined walls and prop-filled shelves, "Sid" -- the fictitious proprietor of the shop -- acquires hand-signed photos from Tinseltown's favorite stars.

'One-of-a-Time' Artwork

Guests can purchase their very own hand-drawn, personalized wristwatch in the shadow of The Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror on Sunset Boulevard at Sunset Club Couture.

Guests choose a favorite drawing from the shop's giant catalog of Disney heroes, classic characters and even villains. Then, at an animator's table located near the shop entrance, a Disney artist sketches (and colors, if desired) the selection. Names can also be added, as well as a special date or other select personalization. The hand-drawn piece is then transferred onto the face of a wristwatch and presented alongside the original artwork. The shop will even custom-frame the two pieces together for an additional cost. A certificate of verification is included.

These "timely" gifts can be used to mark important occasions (one of the most popular choices depicts Mickey in a tuxedo and Minnie in a wedding dress, featuring the couples' names and date of marriage), commemorate holidays or celebrate a special family vacation.

Disney Fine Art

At The Art of Disney in Epcot or Downtown Disney, guests can find rare Disney collectibles, animation cels and fine art.

Featuring many limited edition pieces created especially for Disney, the store's artful inventory includes:

Museum-quality wall art, "big figs," limited edition Walt Disney Classics Collection figurines and animation cels.

Arribas Brother crystal figures in the shape of Cinderella Castle ($165) and Classic Steamboat Mickey ($145), among others.

Lenox Fine China created in honor of some of Disney's famous animated characters.

Starlite Originals Legends pieces such as a Cinderella figure encased in a glass pumpkin with a crystal castle behind her for $1,500.

Re: Shopping Adventures at WDW

Art of Disney is by far my favorite store to 'window shop'...wish I had the extra cash to splurge on all of the incredibly beautiful things there. When we were at Downtown Disney this past weekend, we were in the Swarovski shop and they had a Cinderella Castle figurine that was about the size of a large coffeemaker selling for $37,000 dollars. Oh...if only I had that in my pocket change...

Re: Shopping Adventures at WDW

I know just what you mean Jeff!
I have an eye on getting a personalized wristwatch at MGM myself.
