I haven't drank alcohol or went to a club in over 12 years. I won't miss them at all. I'm glad Disney is revamping this area. Each time we go we cannot figure out why they split the two shopping and attraction areas with a drinking scene. At least now they will make the whole place more kid friendly. Before my kids never wanted to even go to the Westside because they had to make that walk through PI and then there wasn't a whole lot to do in Westside.
I cannot wait until the Hanes "design-your-own t-shirt" shop opens!! (or is it already open??)
I found out about this just a bit earlier this morning and I for one will not miss all the night clubs as I never indulged in night clubbing and certainly do not go to Disney to drink alcohol. I am one who is looking forward to seeing what Disney comes up with.
So sorry for those who will miss it tho.

I know what you mean. I have several friends that I've helped plan trips to WDW in the past two years so far and the first question out of the mouths of two of the husbands was.... "Where can I get a beer?". They weren't joking. I told them that since I do not drink and Disney isn't exactly known for it's alcohol consumption that I am a little fuzzy on that detail but that some of the restaurants offer it. Other than in EPCOT I'm just not sure why Disney even offers alcohol. In EPCOT it is a simple matter of conforming to the tastes and traditions that World Showcase offers since in many countries it is common place for beer to be a part of the meal. (At least I think so )
I thought to myself "Wow. The next question these guys will ask is 'Where can I hunt?'". And from the looks on their faces I can bet that it would have been their next question if their wives hadn't told them they weren't going to WDW to drink. LOL
Of course, some of us are not gonna miss it, but I still think about how I would if it was done 10 years ago. Disney is a family place, but, hey, there are young people that like to go out and have a drink and dance. Not everything has to be kid friendly. I'm sure Disney knows this and will come up with something for that market too.
In my case, I don't have kids and sometimes need an escape to an adult only place. What we did most of the time when we wanted that was get out Disney property and visit other entertainment places. We didn't go to Pleasure Island because it is expensive and you can grab a beer and dance at other places for a lot less.

Actually, I am going to miss it. When we went on our honeymoon, we took a nigth to go to the clubs and they were SO fun! I only had a drink in one (hunting club, forget the name) because I couldnt stop laughing long enough to drink another! the show was that funny! then we went to an 80's disco and since I was a kid during that decade, it felt like travelling back in time and I felt like I was sneaking to see what I only could know through my cousin's tales! DH and I danced, toured PI and generally had a great time.

I have been reading many reports on why the clubs are closing. Sadly it looks like this was in the works for quite a while. One of the problems was the lack of Disney site guests using the clubs. Many Orlando and off-site guests were getting to be a bit much at the clubs. It did not bode well for on site guests to see.
Another reason could be the need for more top dining places to eat. Just ask anyone who has tried to get a reservation any where. This does seem to make the most sense.
There are heavy rumors that one of the clubs may survive. The Adventurers Club, may come back at a new location. One of the possiblites is placing it close, or at Animal Kingdom. It would be a good fit.
This has always been my fav of all the clubs. Anyone who has been there knows what I mean. It is a Chucky Cheese on Disney Steroids!
Lets see what happens next.
See ya later.

As it is I have outgrown clubbing but, I do still enjoy going out every once in a while. I love dancing.
It has been 20 years since I have been to pleasure island. It was a blast. of course I was twenty something at the time. Every trip out I have tried to get my DH to go with me to Adventurers Club. I only hope that maybe they will repoen it. I was determined that someday I could go and enjoy it.

Why would the Adventurer's Club be a fit at AK????
I would think to leave one or two open would be fine for those who care to partake, and I would think leaving them where they are would be fine, just take out the bulk of them and put in something families can enjoy.

My wife and I will really miss this area. We first went there on our honeymoon in 2001 and had a blast. We fell in love with the Adventure's Club and liked the atmosphere as this is back when they featured live bands on the street stage and had new years eve celebrations nightly. We have been back since and although the vibe has changed a little we still enjoyed ourselves. We would still go to the adventures club but also liked 8Trax where we could dance to some music from our youth and wax romantically about the 'back in the day'. It was never about about getting a drink or drunk you can do that everywhere except the MK; rather it was about letting your hair down and cutting loose a little without your kids. I think part of the reason for the low attendance from property guests was then distance made it a difficult destination if you were utilizing child care services. On our trips with our kids we always used grandparents as sitters. This past trip we were solo with the kids so we used the Sandcastle Club at the Beach Club and stayed local for dinner and a moonlight walk. Well I guess my wife and I will have to settle for having fun at the Boardwalk Atlantic Dance Hall and Jelly Rolls next trip. I am hopeful that maybe the Adventures club or even the Comedy club will be reborn somewhere else on property. I do admit that the adventures club would be a good fit for the AKL and the comedy club might do well at the BW with all the convention goers.

Why would the Adventurer's Club be a fit at AK????
Because of the Big Game hunting theme and tales of adventure in the jungle.
But, as I said, it is a rumor at this point from a very hard core Disney source.
Many things would have to be worked out, such as, should it go into the park? Maybe near the entrance at AK, or perhaps halfway from AK and AK lodge. This spot was really more for entertainment instead of drinking.
I will be starting a new thread shortly in the rumor forum on this and a few other rumors.
See ya later.

Personally, I've only been to the current Pleasure Island once and I really wouldn't miss it. By the looks of how things will change, i'm excited to see how things will turn out and I think it will all be for the better. I put some links under the Rumors post, so, feel free to check them out. It looks great.

Re: Pleasure Island Nightclubs Closing
I was so sad when I found out they were closing! I always wanted to go dancing there but whenever my family went down, I was the only one who wanted to go. Next year I am going with my boyfriend and I was so excited to finally have someone to go there with and its closing, just my luck.
