Unhappy How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

I am really having a hard time. I love EVERYTHING Disney, and I have to be an adult (Boo ).
I have things that need to be done with my "Disney Money" around the house or on my car. I have put these things off for a year or so, because I never want to give up my Disney trip!
We (my sister, my neice, my son and I) have gone to Disney 3 years in a row. And we are planning on NOT GOING this year!!!! I KNOW IT SOUNDS CRAZY!!!
But, I don't know how to cope......... I think about Disney all day, every day! I even get flashbacks! LOL!

How do you cope when/if you HAVE TO skip a year?
P.S. - I HATE being an adult!!!

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

The only time we've ever gone two years in a row was 07 and 08 and I can tell you this, the two years between our 1st and 2nd and now our 3rd and 4th trips make the time we have/will spend in Disney World so much more special. In 2008 it seemed like we had just been there since we had gone the year before. We plan on ONLY going every other year now.

During the two year gap between trips we watch a LOT of Disney movies, and shows. I fill the DVR up with Disney travel shows. And we listen to Disney music cd's. The time seems to fly by. This last 702 days have gone by seemingly almost as fast as the 355 days between 07 and 08.

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

You make a good point, GoofyDad. We just got hooked our first year and couldn't dream of missing a year.
Do you start planning, or put down a down payment, or anything for your next trip? I was just thinking, if we started paying on a Disney Vacation for 2011, it could give me something to look forward to......
I am really new to the whole vacation thing. LOL! Our first Disney trip in 2007 was my first vacation as an adult, with my son! That was when I realized a vacation is not out of reach, like I alway thought. And, Disney is SOO awesome because everything is at your fingertips. Your resort and the parks, dining, transportation......etc.

We always get a lot of money back on our taxes and we use that and pay the trip off right away. Then we just sit back and wait for the trip. But making payments on the trip may make it go by fast.

I agree with GD on this. Much as I love being able to go to WDW every year, it does feel like you've only just left.

Waiting is hard but I do find one trip every 2 years is better for us, especially as we tend to stay for a longer time when we're there.

Having said that, I miss WDW from the minute we get home to the minute we go back.

I don't tend to watch the movies or listen to the music much though as for me, this is a different side of Disney and doesn't really remind me of WDW. When the waiting gets too bad however, I have been known to have a sneaky look at our photos (and there are thousands of them!), watch the planning DVD and record the odd show from the travel channels on TV.

Mainly though, I ignore the waiting as best I can (we always have other vacations to look forward to instead) and of course, spend all my time on Talk Disney!

Oh, I didn't mean the garbage that the young Disney stars pump out. I truly can't stand that stuff. Someone needs to tell them that just because they are on a TV show doesn't automatically mean they can sing. Wow, are they horrible!

I meant the Disney World park music, monorail spiel, show music, and ride music.

I also continuously go over and over the plans for our next trip. Even if it is 2 years away. I start planning as soon as we get back from the trip we're on at the moment. LOL

OOooo, and yesterday I also helped my cousin and his partner plan out their trip to DW this September. He is also taking his parents (my aunt and uncle) since they've never been. It was a lot of fun to do.

Ah sorry!

I don't often listen to the kind of music either but when I do, it whisks me right back to WDW.

I don't think I could handle hearing that stuff too often. I'd have to run off and book a trip straight away!

Oddly enough, even though all of the park music reminds me of Disney World, the Monorail Spiel is what really takes me back. Whenever it comes on Live365 I have to just sit back at my desk and listen to it. I know, weird.

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

LOL - no, not weird at all.

In fact it's the monorail speil that really takes me back too. And it's the same speil that givces me tingles in my stomach when we are there - that and the "welcome home" message on the resort busses.

Maybe we're both weird?

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

I miss everything Disney, when I am not there.
Sounds , sites, smells of the food, attractions, it is so hard to leave that I am almost in tears!
The only thing that makes it better is planning the next trip, or reading some great trip reports on this site!

Yea! Me too! I miss it SOOO much! I have flashbacks everyday.
I may have over reacted alittle bit, on my first post! LOL! This is about the time of year we start planning our trip for August/September.....but not this year! It's kinda hitting me hard.
I do see that waiting a year between WDW trips could make me appreciate it more.
I think I would feel better if I started planning our next trip! Because we WILL be there in 2011! LOL!
And reading trip reports could help! I love TD!
Thanks everybody, you guys are great!

I plan, plan and plan while I wait in between trips. I talk with my husband about past and future trips! I search through the WDW website for new adventures for our next trip!

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

My wife says that it's ironic that I'm an addictions therapist because I need help for my addiction. Disney. I have 16 spreadsheets and 34 Word files that I work on constantly between trips that can attest to this. It does make the time go by rather fast. We got back from our 08 trip and were looking at 24 months to go until our next trip. Now it's down to 6 months.

Re: How do you cope, when HAVE TO skip Disney this year?

My family and I go to Disney WOrld every other year (so we don't get burnt out) and it is hard for me sometimes. The only thing I can tell you is to listen to as much Disney Park Music and you can. I helps keep your "cravings" under control.
You can do it!!!!!
