    Overboard on souvenirs anyone?

Ok I admit I am definitely one to go overboard when it comes to souvenirs. I always tell myself that I am only going to get a few items per person, but I never do I always end up buying more than planned. Wether it's an extra album, too many clothes or even the many pins for my already filled lanyard. Whatever it is I can say that over the years I have made more memories with just snapping pics with the family and creating those memories that you just can't find on a store shelf!! Oh yes. I am a Disney hoarder! I also treasure the photos I have taken on our Disney vactions. In an attempt to buy (hoard) less, I simply take a snapshot of a store shelf of Mickey stuffed toys, or a store rack of ear hats. It makes for a diverse scrapbook of Disney vacations.

Count me in on this one....I still have a few shirts that I just had to have from our last trip and they still have the tags on them (our last trip was December of 2007) so yes, I think I bought too many. That trip since it was the beginning of December we decided to also do all of our Christmas shopping for our families we usually spend about $2000 on our families.... We have 24 nieces and nephews, but for the adults thank goodness we do a grab bag or we would go broke. Anyways long story short that trip we sent home all of our purchases and we had 25 boxes shipped home. 22 of them were on the same overnight truck, the delivery person just laughed at me when I signed for them, because it emptied out their truck for the day. So yes I do tend to overspend at Disney, but I have 5 years to save up for it, so I think it balances it all out, at least that is what I tell myself, yes my name is Julie and I have a Disney shopping problem. Thanks for the support!

Never thought about a scrapbook. What a great idea! Archive maps and pictures from the trips, special pins...

I have my weaknesses, and they are the paintings / autographs at Star Tours (spent WAY too much money there last year...I nearly cleaned out the wall. The Cast Members were looking at me like I'd lost my mind. Now the painting of Minnie as Princess Leah is in my kids room, and Mickey fighting Darth Vader is in my living room. The autographed photos are at my office.

The other is the Lego store at DD. I will grossly overspend there. I'm...a bit addicted too...

Love it!! Good to know that I'm not alone and the only one who goes wild when it comes to shopping!! Last year I think the concierge took out more bags of souvenirs than our own luggage lol!! My name is Crystal and I have a Disney shopping addiction. And yes thanks for the support!!

Love it " I nearly cleaned out the wall " Yep sounds like an addiction to me, but a fun one!!

    Re: Overboard on souvenirs anyone?

I actually make room in my luggage while packing for the trip for folding duffels for the souvaniers to travel home in. And THEN I keep an eye out for "free luggage sets" at the shops to use to send home the rest.

As a result, the other place I get the "what the heck is wrong with this guy" look is at the hotel airline checkin desk when they start to warn me about extra baggage fees and I'm like, fine, whatever, here's my card.

That being said, I save for my vacations, and I want to be clear, I choose to afford to splurge at Disney, and my normal lifestyle reflects that. But, while I can't go way overboard, I do make sure that money is not a severe concern while I'm there.

    So, while I might have mental issues, I don't think I have a mental problem (or...maybe I do?) <grin>

Lol, yes!!!! We always buy more than we were planning. And we also safe room in our suitcases and once bought an extra trolley in World of Disney.
This year, we go on our first Disney cruise (and Castaway Cay).
We start at WDW, but try not to buy anything before our cruise, as I've seen so much awesome cruise stuff. If we have spendingmoney left after our cruise we can buy some other things, we go to DTD afterwards

Yes, I agree buying more than planned can easily be done without even thinking about how far overboard you have gone, buying more than planned has definitely proven to be a fact for me over the years. I was just going through some Disney stuff the other day, and WOW really I never thought that I had so much stuff. I need to do inventory before our next trip lol!!

I give my kids their own money to spend. Sometime in the form of a cash gift card. They spend the first few day scoping out the things they want and then spend their money more selectively. It makes a big difference when they are spending their own money

I was thinking of doing something similar for my kid this year, but using Disney Dollars, if they still sell them.

I'm not familiar with Disney Dollars. Does it work like a gift card? I read an earlier post by you that stated you plan for your tripos it's ok to splurge (I'm paraphrasing) and I agree. We are celebrating special events next year so we are preparing now! Who wants to penny pinch on a Disney trip.

Disney Dollars are sold only in the parks, no longer in Disney stores. Basically you are trading your regular US dollars for money that is decorated with Mickey and friends. It can be used in DW just like using regular money. Some people collect them money and sell it on eBay.

I do save for the trip so I have a ready reserve set in place. I can't go crazy while I'm there, but I don't really "budget" while I'm there either. I normally don't buy anything until towards the end of the trip, outside of stuff we'll wear/use on the parks (pins, ears, etc)...and I save the major shopping for Downtown and the last few visits to the park.

That way I've been able to peruse all the shops and make a list of things I really want (or the kid wants that might "suprise" her for her bday / christmas).

Disney Dollars are sold at the park at Guest Services, as I recall. As a kid/teenager, my grandparents used to give them to me every Christmas, and I'd save them for my next trip!

They are a lot of fun.

Google "Disney Dollars" and you'll find lots of images of them.
