Toon Town

Will Toon Town be closed in April? I thought they were going to be closing that area when construction started for the new Pixie Hollow area they're building for 2012.
Also is there a fairy meet and greet??

I believe that toon Town will be closed.
We do have an update on the construction.
Fantasyland Expansion Begins with Groundbreaking at Magic Kingdom Park

If I understand correctly the character meet and greet area has been moved . This includes Mickey and Minnie's houses. I know that we have had a few members worried about this also.

Re: Toon Town

Yes, its being closed for Pixie Hollow. The Barnstormer will stay though, Mickey and Minnie's houses will just be moved to another area of the park. There hasn't been a closing date released, just that it will most likely be closed by 2011.

Where did this information come from? From all accounts out right now the houses are going away for good and not just being moved.

Re: Toon Town

With some alterations for the budgets being done recently it's very strongly rumored that many of the big changes may be getting a scale back. The only definitive plans that are green lighted and being worked on are the Little Mermaid dark ride and Gaston's Tavern/Be Our Guest Restaurant. Both of those are in the area that was Ariel's Grotto and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I'd keep an eye on things coming up b/c pretty much every other thing that leaked out in those plans from a while ago is up in the air including the closing of Toon Town.

Re: Toon Town

That would be so nice. My daughter has told me that going to ToonTown is just something that makes a Disney trip special. And my son just wouldn't see Disney World as the same if he couldn't see where Mickey and Minnie live.

Re: Toon Town

I heard or read that their houses are going to be moved to a new area that you will access from somewhere close to the front of the park...my guess would be on the right as you come in and head down Main Street...there are a number of exits to backstage and they could redo one of them to acess it...I doubt they would do the other side behind the Eurphorium (sp) as that is where the parades come in and out and I have been backstage there with our high school band and it is a lot of streets for the floats to go on!

I hope they do...we have 2 year olds and 6 month old that need to see this!

I heard that one too but it was just a rumor. It actually started here on TD and has spread over several other sites. That rumor started from the idea that Mickey and Minnie were going to have a permanent MG spot at the front of the parks and someone suggested that they make an alley way on the right side into a "street" and have it lead to the houses. That would be nice but I think that would kind of mess up Walt's idea of Mainstreet USA.

Re: Toon Town

I don't know where the houses would fit up front. The backstage area is pretty close by. I'd heard...another brilliant rumor LOL is that the houses could be getting the travelling bug. Spending some time overseas. I'd hate to see them just disappear, but when we went walking through them in March they looked like they needed some....remodelling? In some areas it looked like someone/thing messed with some of the wallpaper and other little things like that.

I would hate to see it go as that is one of my favorite areas, but I can understand the need to update and change.
