Kindle Fire
I know this a bit off topic, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to get a Kindle Fire. Does anyone have one, and if so, how do you like it? Is it useful for WDW trips? It's so much cheaper than an iPad.

I have a Kindle Fire and I love it. I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I dig all of the free movie and tv show streaming that I get to do. I got it after my last WDW trip, so I can't be of any help there. I mostly use mine to read magazines and for the movies and tv. I have a regular kindle for reading (I'm an admitted Amazon junkie!). There is a rumor around that there will be an iPad mini to compete with the Kindle Fire, but I'm not sure if that's true. I wasn't willing to blow $500-$700 on a iPad (that is an extra trip to WDW for me). If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me.

I have both the kindle fire and iPad in our house. The kindle is new and mostly used for reading. Trying to get used to the little differences between the two. Have not used the Kindle for any disney apps yet - maybe that will be my project for this weekend. I originally wanted a kindle for reading b/c the iPad screen is not that great outdoors and is heavy. Kindle fire is not much better in sunlight so part of my reason for purchase was wasted but it is lighter to hold and easy to toss in my purse. It would totally make sense for apple to make a mini. If I would have heard that rumor before today I probably would have waited and just read books the old fashion way a little longer. Sorry for the ramble.

Re: Kindle Fire
I really want an iPad but can't really afford it. I've looked into Kindle Fire, and they look amazing and would get one except they don't work in Australia

I always change my screen to the black background with the white letters so I can read in sunlight. It's much easier that way.

I love my iPad but I have been contemplating buying a Nook tablet or Kindle Fire as well. My iPad is so big and heavy, I love it don't get me wrong but sometimes I think I would like the flexibility of having a smaller tablet to toss in my purse and go.

Really? I haven't done much serious research, just kinda tossed the idea around. Might wait it out and see if they really do release an iPad mini. Would be nice since I have all the other apple stuff. Does Amazon do any coupons?

Re: Kindle Fire
She works in IT, so yeah, she gets all these little goodies to play with.
I don't know how much better it is. Myself, I have a droid pad and an iPad (both for development reasons, though I tend to use the iPad more)...I have an older Kindle that I love for books.
I'll ask her about what she gets with her prime membership and the cost. She's coming in this week. She raves about it.

I think the prime membership is $79 or $89 for the year
You get 1 free book a month
Tv and movies (not sure what the criteria is)
2 day free shipping on all amazon orders
Not sure what else but the free shipping is what I like

Re: Kindle Fire
Anyone know if books are interchangeable between the Kindle Fire and an older Kindle (the ones that aren't backlit)?
I have an older Kindle, so I'm wondering if the books that I'm reading on it can also be read on the Fire. If so, does it pick up from the last page you read on the older Kindle?

- I know it is for the Nook so I would think it will be for the kindle. I had a kindle app on the iPad before I purchased a kindle and the books loaded onto the kindle when I activated the account on that device.
