Disney's Mickey's 75th Plans

Disney chairman and CEO Michael Eisner was to join the company's animators and the actors who voice its characters at Walt Disney World on Tuesday to celebrate the 75th birthday of Mickey Mouse.

Seventy-five 6-foot tall, 700-pound statues of the famous mouse were to be unveiled. They were designed or inspired by artists, actors and athletes including Andre Agassi, Jamie Lee Curtis (news), Ellen DeGeneres (news), Janet Jackson (news), Michelle Kwan (news) and "Mickey Mouse Club" star Annette Funicello (news).

The statues will be on display at Walt Disney World until April. They will then tour the United States and be auctioned for charity.

To help commemorate Mickey's anniversary, the U.S. Postal Service will start a stamp program next year featuring Disney characters, starting with Mickey.

Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations
November 18, 2003 - April 30, 2004
In celebration of Mickey Mouse's 75th anniversary, The Walt Disney Company is launching Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations!!

The program features 75 Mickey statues, each standing six-feet-tall and weighing 700 pounds, designed by a diverse array of artists, including Disney Legends, painters, actors, musicians, animators and athletes.

Participating artists created these Mickey-inspired statues to fit into one of six themes: heritage, adventure, magic and fantasy, fun and laughter, friendship, and the future.

The statues will be on display at the Walt Disney World Resort through late April. After that time, the statues will leave the Walt Disney World Resort and travel to 12 U.S. cities as part of an 18-month tour sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company. Finally, the statues will spend a few months at the Disneyland Resort before being auctioned, with all proceeds benefiting a charity of the artist's choice.

To celebrate the 75 InspEARations, WDW will be releasing a LE 3000 pin, and a Cast Exclusive pin on Tuesday November 18, 2003!!

They should do a Disney/McDonalds tie in and reproduce the statues as toys. dOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE ARE SHOTS AVAILABLE OF EACH OF THE STATUES?

Where are all the statues located? Are they spread out over all of the property? I can't wait to see them when I go up in December!

These are great! I hope they do have mini versions of some of them. I would love to have a small copy of the Wyland one. I love and collect his work!

You know.... I almost didn't even click on this thread to read it... I AM GLAD I DID! Those are adorable Mickeys. And I can't wait to see them in January. Just one more thing to look forward at WDW! My kids and I just spend the last 30 minutes looking at the pictures of every single one!! Let us know more if you find out about their locations around WDW!.... Thanks for the info..
