Yeti forever frozen?

Well, this is worrisome: over at Miceage.com, there's a rumor that the Yeti in the Everest ride has been frozen for months in what's apparently called "B mode", in which he doesn't move and strobe lights are turned on to give the impression of movement. Why? Because he keeps breaking down all the time, and worse, the concrete base he's on has cracks in it that can't be repaired. Apparently the Imagineers didn't figure on the AA's vigorous movements jeopardizing the foundation on which it stands.

Now if that's true, that's kind of pitiful IMO. A hugely expensive, brand new AA figure that cannot move any more because of poor planning. That does NOT sound like Disney to me! Yet I have to remember that the last time I was at WDW, I was unable to ride Everest because it had broken down. And from what I heard from people there is that it happens quite often. Has anybody here ridden on Everest recently, and did they see the Yeti move?

Re: Yeti forever frozen?

Sounds to me like a major rehab in the future.

I was lucky on my last trip that the Yeti was still working. From what I could find it has been turned off since late March or early April.

We had a few threads on the construction of this attraction somewhere in our base.

I know that the attraction was built on three different set of footings.
One for the mountain, one for the ride and a heavy one for the Yeti. This was supposed to prevent the problem that is now happening with stress cracks. Oh well , looks like they did not get it right.

Such a shame.

Re: Yeti forever frozen?

oh NO! I had not heard anything about this! I hope they get this back up and running soon! Many people are missing out on a GREAT attraction. It was working last year when we were there, and I hate to think many are missing out on the Yeti swatting at them! That's half the fun!

Re: Yeti forever frozen?

I am embarrased to say that I have yet to see the Yeti. My eyes are always closed and have always missed him. In fact i didnt even know he existed until i was watching a show on how they made Everest.

I went a few weeks ago and they do make it seem like it is moving with the strobes so most people will never know.

Re: Yeti forever frozen?

When we went in February I didn't get a chance to go over to AK but my sister did and the Yeti wasn't working then. She didn't even see it with the strobe lights on and she went on it 6 times. I'm really hoping it will be working in time for our October 2009 trip but I doubt it. It's a shame that they can't get it working.
