    Exclamation Mission Space

Ok.... I have heard "things" about this ride. Honest answer how bad is it. I know that kid dies on it who had an undiagnosed heart condition (which makes me want to take my son to have his heart checked before we go, LOL), and I know they had to offer a different version of the ride to tone it down a bit. So.... how is it, really? I love and ride the roller coaster (Rockin Roller Coaster, Space Mtn, etc), so how does it compare to these?
I ask because my ALMOST teen, wants to ride it, but I don;t want it to freak him out.

    THANKS!

I haven't done the more intense version (and probably never will). But on my last trip, I gave the non-spinning side a try. It wasn't bad at all! In fact, it was fun.

went on this ride and loved it, only problem i see is if you suffer from motion sickness then avoid the Full version and if dont like confined small spaces then avoid. Otherwise have a go you will love it, gives you a totally new experience to coasters and regular rides

    Re: Mission Space

I had the same worries and had avoided the ride until last trip. We only tried the "green" (beginner slope) side. It is a simulator ride so I get the "simulator stomach" on it; however, I don't feel nearly as queasy as on Star Tours. I think it helps that they are telling you to push buttons so you have something to do instead of only staring at the screen. My DD6 thought it was really cool, not scary at all. My husband really wants to try the orange side next time because he would like to get the full feeling of the launch.

If you are trying for the first time, the green side is mild and I highly recommend focusing on your "job" pushing buttons and using the stick to fly (but don't worry, the ride won't crash if you aren't the best pilot).

If you're worried, just try the green side. I get a bit queasy on Star Tours, but not on Mission Space Green.

You can't really compare it to roller coasters because it's an entirely different sensation. For example, I have no problem with ToT, but I get horribly dizzy within the first few seconds of Dumbo! It all depends on the individual.

We love the Original ride. My wife did get sick the first time she rode it but it is because she turned her head like the warn you not too. If you look straight ahead like they tell you it does not feel like you are spinning.

    Re: Mission Space

As someone who doesn't normally do thrill rides, I still tried it simply because it is one of those "must do" attractions. I will admit, that there were a couple of occasions (2 to be exact) that I believed that if the effect persisted, I would most certainly "loose" it. But no sooner did it end and I was OK. Overall, I would say that it is not bad.

BTW, this was prior to the implementation of the "safe" option

I don't know if I have that much control over my eyes. Just the mere fact that they tell me I have to look straight ahead would make me (involuntarily) look to the side. Kind of like when you have a tooth problem and you can't keep your tongue away from it. LOL

That is exactly what my wife said when she did it. It is funny you mentioned tooth problems. I just cracked a filling at lunch lol. It is driving me nuts.

    Re: Mission Space

Both of my kids LOVE this ride. My oldest rode the original when he was 10 (13 now) and every time since, the younger just rides the green, but she's (8 now) asking for the "real" one. I'm leaving that decision up to the hubby. LOL I won't ride it. But then I won't ride Goofy's Barnstormer either.

Ok. I love this ride but if you can't handle motion sickness I'm sorry to tell you but I don't think this is your type of ride! It makes me a little dizzy after the ride but that's all. I tried the intense version my first time and I loved it but to be on the safe side I would do the mild version first. If you keep your head back and look forward the whole time you'll do great!

It's really a great ride... one of my tops.
