    Good age to start?

We are heading to Disney World on November 3rd, 2012. What is a good age to start pin trading, collecting? I have a 5 and 3.5 year old. Don't think the 3.5 year old will be interested but I can see the 5 year old getting into it. Thanks!

DD5 loves to pin trade we just give her a ton of not so great ones and by the end of the trip she has what she calls her magical pen collection

I would suggest buying a lot of 10-20 pins from eBay. It would costs less than buying in the parks and if they end up not liking the whole pin trading thing, it wouldn't be a whole lot of money down the drain

My kid at 5 and 6 loved it. My kid at 7 did not.

I'm thinking probably round 4-8 would be good. For me I would want my kids to know what they are getting. Plus the younger they start the more they will be able to get. But I would also want them to understand the value of the pins.

How do you catalog your pins? I don't want to drag my set down this November but I also don want to get duplicated. I don't have many. Thanks!

My 4 kids love it (15, 12, 6, and 2)! The older kids help the younger. My 2 yr old ONLY want Mickey and Minnie lol. My 15 takes a picture on his cell so he knows what he has. I buy trade packs on Amazon for them to trade for what they really want.

    Re: Good age to start?

Ok, first, here's a site that is official Disney that has all sorts of neat tools for pin trading, like a searchable database, trading news, rules and etiquette, checklists, etc.

Disney Parks | Disney Pin Trading | Disney

If you are looking for a way to inventory your collection, and have that inventory in your pocket, I'd suggest looking into "Inventory" applications for your Droid / iPhone / iPad.

One I have is MyStuff2 Lite on my iPad, and it's great. I don't use it for my Pins, but it could easily be utilized in this manner. It even allows you to write custom descriptsion, set up groups and sub-groups, and snap a picture which it will store.

    Anyhow, hope this helps!

I think 5 is a great age kids love to swap, collect and search.
I think it's also great to encourage them to interact and learn pin etiquette.
I would recommend just getting cheap pins for then to trade though no point spending loads on limited editions etc.am sure they will find what they like to trade for.

So what exactly do you mean by "pin etiquette"? Asking nicely to see pins and asking if they can trade nicely?

It doesn't apply much to children, but there are rules associated with who can trade what, specifically when it comes to cast members. One of the rules I know offhand is that a cast member isn't allowed to trade more then one pin with a person at a time.

I heard, and experienced, that you can only trade 2 pins with each CM. Some I traded one pin and with some I traded 2.

Maybe it was two. I posted a link to Disneys official pin trading sites a few posts up, and they have a link that describes pin ettiquite there.

My kid has never had trouble trading as much as she wants with cast members...so, I don't think the rules are very strictly enforced...it's more to have something in place if a rabid pin trading adult comes along...I suspect.
