Pre - trip - An Aussies trip to WDW again!

    Well hi everyone!

It has been a long time since I have done a trip report - the last few years have been difficult with my mum suffering 3 strokes over a period of 18 months, finishing my masters degree (one of my thesis papers was on Walt Disney and his leadership journey from birth to death!!) and moving interstate to take on a new role. But finally after much dreaming we are going back to our favorite place in the world - WDW.

I last went in Feb 2014 and then to Disneyland with my best friend in June 2014 (2 trips from Aus in one year was a huge effort!) and now we have booked or September 2016!

I'm not sure if I will manage to do a full trip report but will try my best and will update this pre-trip report over the next nine months every time we make a decision. The "we" in this trip is myself (35), and my parents (65 and 63), just a trip with immediate family. We weren't sure if we would ever do another trip with mums health but she's has had 12 months with no strokes, and we have managed to get her health under control. She will never be healed as she has an underlying health issue that is very rare and not curable but as long as we manage the symptoms we are good. It will be a slightly different trip for us as mum now uses a walking stick but we will put a plan in action to deal with that.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you feel that all the stars, moon and planets have aligned?? Well that was the 31st December for us. I was on holidays at my parents house in the country and dad and I had been talking about how we would love to go again in 2016. Well within 4 hours we had booked flights and accommodation!!

Accommodation came first - let me back up and first say that I know a lot of people won't agree with where we are staying but it works for us - we are staying at the Swan. We like deluxe but the cost of either 2 rooms or a 2 bedroom villa priced out at $4000 more than the swan! We love to stay within walking distance to Epcot so it's the perfect compromise for us. And the only real negatives for us is that we can't use our magic bands to open our room or charge things and we can't book fast passes until 30 days out. So we booked 2 rooms at the swan at a fabulous rate and then started looking at flights and wow we couldn't believe it - Qantas had a massive sale! We jumped on and booked return to New York (closest we could get to Orlando!!). We then scoured American options and scored a great price return from NY to Orlando with Delta and so bam, we were booked!!

Now we still have a lot to organise - firstly I haven't even taken leave from work yet! Whoops! But I'm back at work tomorrow and I'm sure it won't be a problem as its a quiet time for my work and I have organized it so I get back just before I have to run a whole lot of workshops.

We also need to buy tickets. Normally, pre fast pass + we would just buy them when we arrived but now we need to buy them before hand. I'm presuming they will mail them to Australia for us?? I really want to get them early so I can start booking fast passes for us 30 days out! Also question - if I purchase magic bands through the Disney store can I link them to our tickets on the website? Or should we just wait and buy the magic bands when we arrive and get them to link them to our tickets in the park??

We will be booking some dinning reservations as well - again some may not agree with our choices but there are our favourites!! We will be booking Fultons Crab House, the Mexican restaurant at Epcot and the Italian at Epcot (yep feel terribly embarrassed right now as I can't remember their names!!). Also will be booking lunch at Crystal Palace as we like the food and we love Eeyore and we know we will see him there!

We are there for 14 days so will be getting a 10 day park hopper. We will need to really pace ourselves as mum can't stand for hours on end and we need to watch that her feet don't swell and we will have to take constant breaks. Also may not be able to do early mornings either but that's ok. As long as we are there together we will be happy!

So that's it for now! If anyone has experienced traveling with a relative using a walking stick any advice is greatly appreciated.

For now I'm going to continue drooling over different menus and dreaming of being at my happiest place in the world! x

    Well a small update.

Unfortunately mum has taken another turn health wise. We have had 18mths with no stroke signs and then on the weekend she became unwell. After multiple tests it looks like it may be the first stages of kidney disease. Will know more when she goes back to her specialist in a few days.

At this stage we are hoping that all will be well and we are still going ahead with our trip.

We will be buying our tickets online and then picking them up when we arrive as I have been informed that they can't ship to Australia. The good news is after contacting WDW I have been informed that even though we are staying at the Swan we can still book fast passes 60 days out which I'm thrilled with. Another 40 days or so and I can book dining reservations!

So at this stage we are still going ahead with the trip just praying that mums health stabilizes!

Thank you. More doctors appointments today so hopefully will get some answers. In the meantime we are reading all the menus to get ideas for our trip!

Hoping your mom gets better. Atleast you all have exciting things to think about like resturants. That alone is sure enough to make anyone feel better!! A bit of disney magic should do the trip. I hope all goes well x

    Another small update!

We just booked our park tickets!!! Woohoo!!! We have selected to have them shipped to Australia - the website gave us that option but I'm half expecting to get an email back saying they can't ship them and we have to pick them up when we arrive. Either way the main thing is we have purchased them!

    A small update!

Our tickets arrived a few weeks ago and we were so excited! Living in Aus getting post from Disney is rare (and extremely expensive) so this was a big thing for us!

We are now in the 180 day window so I have been booking dinner reservations. We are sad the Fultons Crab House will be closed whilst we are there but we decided to try the Boathouse for something different. Have booked a number of places at Epcot including Mexican and Italian which are our favourites and also booked Crystal Palace for lunch at MK as Eeyore is one of our favorites! Also booked TRex for our final day and Mama Melrose as part of the Fantasmic package.

The biggest stress with the trip at the moment is our flights as we fly to LA then NY and then to Orlando. A lot of transfers for one day especially when we have to not stress mum out cause that causes her blood pressure to rise which is what makes her sick. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. Doing lots of prep early so we know the gates and terminals in Advance and how to navigate our way through the airport. Mum will be using her walking stick which on one hand gives her support but it also slows us down so I am just hoping that our flights are on time.

That's all for now! Excited to be in the 180 window as it means it's getting closer! Bring on September!!!!
