Since its “rookie season” five years ago, Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex has become a home to world-class athletes. In celebration of the big leaguers, hard hitters, dunkers and speedsters that continue to participate in its events, Disney’s Wide World of Sports has unveiled a sleek new logo that celebrates the exhilaration of sports that has become an everyday experience at Walt Disney World Resort.
The new Disney’s Wide World of Sports logo made its first appearance stenciled on the grass berm inside the Disney Ballpark at the sports complex during Atlanta Braves spring training in March. The new look is being gradually incorporated into signage packages, on merchandise items, letterhead, business cards and marketing and sales collateral materials.
The new logo concept provides a bold interpretation of the athletic experience. Created by the Disney Design Group at Walt Disney World, the graphic depicts a dynamic, and somewhat abstract, athletic figure. The arms are raised as the athlete powerfully streaks around the globe, as if it were crossing a finish line in competition. The sharp, swirling lines around the orb represent the athlete’s world, full of energy, emotion and excitement.
The logo’s primary colors are affectionately labeled Resonating Black, Exhilarating Red, Sports White and Authentic Grey. Each represents an element of athletic competition found at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Black embodies an athlete’s steadfast determination to succeed; the two shades of red represent the passion or internal desire to compete; white, in all its simplicity, represents vision and clarity of an athlete’s purpose; and grey signifies success, whether it be overall victory or personal achievement.
“We challenged the Disney Design Group to create a new look that captures the essence of sports -- authenticity and exhilaration,” adds Ray Wallace, general manager of Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. “Disney’s Wide World of Sports is a proving ground for athletes of all ages and abilities, youth to professional. Athletes and fans alike bring an unmistakable passion to our events. The new logo personifies that feeling of giving everything one has and knowing it is the very best, win or lose.”
Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex is the ultimate destination for competitors and fans alike. The 200-acre multi-sport facility in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort annually plays host to thousands of amateur and professional athletes in more than 150 events, ranging from Atlanta Braves spring training and a variety of collegiate tournaments to Amateur Athletic Union national championships.
