Two Way Radios - worth it?

I did a search here for 2 way radios and got a few opinions. However I was curious if they ARE worth taking and if so is there a particular brand that works best. I guess I'm afraid that if we get them we'll have an issue with everyone in the park having them and pick up other peoples pages, etc. Of course I guess that's always a possibility, right?

We do have cell phones - is that the better way to go?

    TIA

We went without either last year. I have to admit, we did everything together. A few people we met did have them, but constantly complained that they really couldn't hear the person on the other end.

Umm. Good Question. We just bought a pair of Mildland 2 way radios and are going to take them in July when we go. We got them at Best Buy for $50. It goes up to 6 miles on land and 7 on water. I have only tested them out in the house and they work great. We tested them outside while dad was cutting the grass and it worked good. We have never gone more than a fourth of a mile but they seem okay.
    Cellphones-?????????
Well, sometimes we use ours but the long distine bill If you have a good plan than sure go for it!
Hope this helps. I'll post when we test them going 5 miles.

2 way radios do pick up others signals, so yes, your calls could be overheard by others on the same frequency.
We have a pair but do not use them. We cannot hear one another probably interference(?). At home they work fine. We use the cell phones but even then it is sometimes difficult to hear in the parks. I use the flashing Mickey antenna topper so I can see the flashing when the phone rings!

I've done both and personally I think that the cell phone is the way to go. The radios that we had were a nuisance because if we were in an attraction like the HOP, where we had to turn them off and then we missed the page. Conversely, the cell was easy to put on vibrate alert so that we always "heard" it, yet never intruded on someone else's enjoyment.

Just be sure to look at your cellular plan to be sure that you don't rack up a heck of a bill.

Best advice is not to use two way radios as they can be a nuisance. I think cells are a nuisance too. Just be sure to meet up with the rest of your party fairly often - schedule when and where.

I agree, scheduling when and where is a good idea. But maybe for those of you on Nextel Networks (don't quote me on this because I have Cellular One and don't have this feature) could use Nextel's 2-way radio feature. Maybe this will work better than other 2-way radios while keeping the cell phone bill down.

I normally scream in case of an emergency!
It may not attract my party,
but those around me know there is a problem!

    Mickey City Hall

Yes, this is effective, MickeysGirl , but if it is a problem that doesn't require immediate attention, you could always stop by City Hall (WDW). Because on the Monorail from the GF to the MK, they say "Now is a great time to plan where to meet if become separated in the park. If you become separated, stop by City Hall on Main Street USA."
