Here's a press release about the BCR from Fairfield:
Fairfield Resorts Reaches Definitive Agreement For Orlando Bonnet Creek Purchase
Planned Resort Will Draw Up To 55,000 Vacationing Families Annually
Press Release: Fairfield Resorts, Inc.
June 27, 2002
ORLANDO, FL -- Fairfield Resorts, Inc., the largest vacation ownership company in the world, today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Bonnet Creek Venture, Ltd. to purchase 46 acres at the Bonnet Creek Resort development in Orlando, Fla. Fairfield Resorts plans to construct a 744-unit timeshare resort at the location beginning in early 2003. The transaction is expected to close October 1, 2002.
Fairfield Resorts will be the first to build at the 480-acre master-planned Bonnet Creek site, located just west of Interstate 4 and accessible via Buena Vista Drive. The company retains a future purchase option for a second 12-acre parcel that can accommodate an additional 350 units.
At completion, Fairfield Orlando at Bonnet Creek will draw up to 55,000 vacationing families to Orlando every year. "Vacationing in Orlando is an American tradition, and growing our presence here is a top priority," said Franz S. Hanning, president and CEO, Fairfield Resorts. "Bonnet Creek is the area's premier location for resort development, and we're excited at the prospect of putting our guests closer than ever to the attractions that have made Orlando the family vacation capital of the world."
Fairfield Resorts transferred its corporate headquarters to Orlando from Little Rock in 1998, and currently has four area resorts, including Fairfield Orlando at Cypress Palms, Fairfield Orlando at Star Island, the Orlando International Resort Club, and Fairfield Daytona Beach at Ocean Walk Resort. More than 50,000 families stayed at a Fairfield Resorts property in the Orlando area last year alone, and an additional 100,000 families purchased Fairfield vacation packages with Orlando-area destinations.
"Owning timeshare can provide access to resorts anywhere in the world, yet Orlando remains a top destination among Fairfield owners," Hanning continued. "We believe in Orlando, and as long as families enjoy vacationing, Fairfield Resorts will continue to expand its presence in this region."
Fairfield Orlando at Bonnet Creek is the latest in a succession of newly announced resorts and continued expansion for the company. Over the last 24 months, Fairfield Resorts has constructed and opened new resorts in Las Vegas, Nev., Daytona Beach, Fla., and Williamsburg, Va., while also acquiring properties in Anaheim, Calif., and Durango, Colo. In addition, the company continues its integration of Equivest Finance, Inc., a resort developer with 29 properties, acquired earlier this year by Fairfield Resorts' parent company, Cendant Corporation.

wow I drove by the area this resort is going on the ocesola parkway and was quite surprised by the size of the area they are digging up there, its huge. I just hope this isn't going to be a unsightly eyesore to the pop century resort.
I don't understand this selling off parcels of land to outside companies for their own resort ventures. Didn't Walt Disney buy this land specifically for the Disney company? I don't like the idea of non-Disney resorts on Disney property. It seems a bit shortsighted, if they sell off the land to developers there will be less land for future projects. Yes, I realize that the Disney property is expansive, but still...they need to review the original dream of Walt Disney, and plan accordingly! Can we blame this on Eisner?

nope can't blame him on this one. when Walt went to buy the land we now call disney world there were a few people who refused to sell there property. there are quite a few holes throughout the property that isn't owned by disney. this was one of them, the man that owned the property died and his family sold it to the fairfield resorts, then they tried to buy property to get access to a road and disne refused to sell then a court made them sell a little peice of land for the entry road onto there property. the last thing Disney Or Eisner wants in competion on wdw property.
oh don't worry Disney is going to make some money off this. they are moving into the Reedy Creek Inprovement distrcit. DIsney supports this area basically off there money they pay in in taxes to them. now disney could skyrocket the tax rate for this new resort and make it very hard to due buisness for them, it won't surprise me if this happens.
CHRISSY if you are coming up to wdw in 3 days and live south of here I'll assume your coming in on the ocesola parkway if you look to the right just before the pop century resort outside the gates of WDW you will see the large visable area they are clearing for this resort.

I've seen the construction signs for the development for quite a while now and have noticed more equipment than usual in the area. It's nice to finally put a name to all the activity.

Bonnet Creek is a resort which is being built by Fairfield Resorts on the Disney property. It is not owned by Disney, but by Fairfield. It is the first property to be sold to another development company on the WDW property. If you are a Fairfield owner, you can stay at the Bonnet Creek resort. It is supposed to be beautiful. I was staying at another Fairfield resort in the area this past week and I was told about the Bonnet Creek property.
well the property was sold it was not sold by disney, there are all sorts of wholes in the property not owned by disney this was one of them that was owned by a gentleman who refused to sell his property and had passed away and then it was sold the only part disney was forced to sell in court was access to a public roadway. this new resort is also right on the edge of disney property.
The new resort is surrounded by Disney property - I think that is more than "right on the edge" of Disney. For Disney-lovers to be upset by this is ridiculous. There are presently over one million rooms available to guests in Orlando and Kissimmee and yet the WDW resorts are filled to capacity any day of the year. This resort will not compete with the WDW resorts. It will only bring tens of thousands more visitors closer to Disney's doors each year. Walt Disney would have considered this a coup for WDW. Don't be deceived - Walt had a dream, yes, but he was also one of the shrewdest businessmen ever. He would have seen that to use this property in this way could only be good for WDW since the original owners would not sell to Disney anyway. Now, Walt has that many more people rushing to the Mickey kiosks to spend their bucks.
We just drove through the Bonnet Creek Resort on 04-07-2004. I snapped a photo of the Fairfield buildings under construction. I will find the photo and upload it in one of my webshots albums. Then I will come back and edit this post and insert a link to the photo, if that is appropriate.
Edited to add:

Welcome to the Talk Disney message boards, mppp! Thanks for offering the picture, it will be really nice to see how the construction is progressing. I'm hoping to drive through the area sometime in May as well, maybe I can upload some pictures.
