Dick Van D yke Enjoys Computer Graphics
Sat Nov 29, 6:15 PM ET

LOS ANGELES - Retired comic actor Dick Van D yke(news) has found a high-tech outlet for his talent.

"I'm a computer animator. I'm a real nerd," the 78-year-old Van D yke told The Associated Press in an interview to promote the DVD release of the 1968 musical fantasy "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

"I do special effects, animation and everything on computer graphics — and I'm pretty good. I haven't ever put anything out professionally, but it's an absolutely addictive hobby."

The star of the groundbreaking sitcom "The Dick Van D ykeShow" said he started tinkering with the technology about 13 years ago and now works on four computers connected with one 40-inch screen in his home computer lab.

"It just became a constant companion," he said. "I have myself in there and do cartoons with myself. Then I'll try to do realistic stuff, too. If I go see a 'Jurassic Park,' I've got to go home and see if I can duplicate it."

And he's always on the lookout for amateur special-effects experts.

"I'm always looking for somebody, a kind of a fellow nerd, but I can't find anybody," he said.

He d oes? That's just d andy!
I understand where he is coming from. I'm addicted to making animated presentations using PowerPoint. The software used in studios must be a blast to play with.

Dick is a proper name and thus, allowable. Until that is...when someone decides to use the name otherwise! Then we admins/mods get to deal with them!

D yke is not a proper name as is Dick. And thank you for continuing to bring this subject up. If we get a rash of usages of these words here, two people will get the warnings...the perpetrator as well corey.

Now seriously...enough of this conversation. I have to close this thread down due to incessant pandering by the "reverend".
