Planning our big WDW trip next year. I have heard about FastPass. This is something new at WDW since our last visit. I understand the concept but how well does it actually work? Can you que more than one attraction at a time?
You can only fastpass one ride per ticket at a time. The last time I was there was 2000 but I found that they worked well most of the time & helped you not waste a lot of time in line. You can do a little shopping/eating or what not if you have some time to kill but not enough to do one of the other rides.
A lot depends on the popularity of the attraction.
At DLR we normally get a FASTPASS to HM or IJA first thing in the morning. In the mean time we are able to ride PotC, HM & either IJA or BTMRR if not both in the first hour then start using the FASTPASS.
Newer attractions are going to run out of FASTPASSES before the day is over.
Often you will see a line to get a FASTPASS that is as long as (or longer than) the stand by line.
My advise would be to either get on those attractions first and/or get a FASTPASS for them very early.
Fastpasses are wonderful!!! I definitly recommend taking advantage of them, especially for the more popular rides. You can only have one fastpass at a time, but you can get another one as soon as the other can be used. For example - you can get a splash mountain fastpass for 11:00 - 12:00 - but as soon as its 11:00, you can get another one for another ride. Sorry if it sounds a little bit confusing. Also, like Rick said, get fastpasses for the most popular rides first because they usually run out quickly!!! Hope this helps!!

Here's a tactic we usually use for Fastpass. Get a Fastpass for one of the major rides at MK right off and do some other stuff nearby till it runs out. If you get there right at opening get a FP for SM and then ride Big Thunder, or the same with Space Mountain and Buzz. It works pretty well for us, in Epcot get one for MS and then go right on Test Track right away.
The FASTPASS ticket distribution works this way: You may pick up one FASTPASS ticket for a FASTPASS attraction. You only may pick up another FASTPASS for any other (or the same) FASTPASS Attraction after A) The first printed return time on your current FASTPASS ticket has passed, or B) Two hours after you received your first FASTPASS ticket, whichever one of A) or B) comes first. Additionally, I'm assuming all WDW parks are on different networks (I know DLR's system much better), meaning you should be able to hold a FASTPASS for two attractions at two different parks at "the same time" (ie: bypassing A) or B) ).
Usually, FASTPASS will lower your wait time for the attraction to 15 minutes or less (depending on attraction operating statistics, other variables). The FASTPASS Return line is usually favored over Standby at Merge, as you have virtually been waiting in line longer than Standby (in most cases).

What about if I get a FastPass at DisneyLand and then get a FastPass
at CaliforniaAdventure right after I got my first FastPass, would I be able
to do that?

Yes you would. There are additional systems in the Disneyland Resort
FASTPASS Systems (system names in bold, attractions of system in italics):
Disneyland Park (DL)
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Indiana Jones Adventure
Splash Mountain
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Autopia
it's a small world holiday (seasonal)
Disney's California Adventure Park (DCA)
California Screamin'
Mulholland Madness
Soarin' Over California
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It!
Grizzly River Run (DCA)
Grizzly River Run
Pirates of the Caribbean (DL) Pirates of the Caribbean
Even though you can only get one at a time - FP's have shaved off hours of wait time... and remember if you get a FP and then move on to something else and the line is rediculously long.. just skip it and come back... it's crazy - some lines that'll have an hour wait at 10 in the morning will have less than 10 min at 2 in the afternoon... go on the big rides during lunch and dinner... also during parade times... this will shorten your wait quite a bit. But always always have a FP in your hand... it's worth it!
