Mickey Hotel Reservations - On-Line v. Phone Call

I have a question on calling for reservations v. doing them on-line?
I was researching on-line and found a decent rate for the Caribbean Beach Resort. I decided to call the reservation number to see if I was missing something better. When I called they told me the Caribbean Beach Resort was booked and they only had a few high end resort rooms left. I found that interesting and thanked her for her time.
After I hung up with her I was able to make reservations on Disney's website for the Caribbean Beach Resort.

My wife said it was probably an internet special - but that didn't make any sense to me. If there were available rooms, would they not want to sell it to me over the phone at a rate higher than any internet special?
Why would they save rooms for on-line orders?
Why are they working on different systems?

Also, are there better ways to set up reservations for stays?

Thanks for any input.

Hey there, GS...

My experience with the Disney resorts has been (and we've stayed in various ones 13 times and counting...) the phone reservation system is the best because you can actually speak with a person about any questions you may have...they might have been able to answer your question about the price discrepancy as well. We have always had positive results with the 'over-the-phone' people and have been made aware of many specials that were not advertised anywhere. Every situation is different, I understand, but generally we have had nothing but positive results with the phone reservation system.

I have only booked Disney resorts over the phone but I have noticed that some are more helpful than others. You have to ask very specific questions- a lot of information is not offered.

IDD DM!! Sometimes you really need to prod the folks at the DRC to get to the bottom of what you are looking for. I personally hate that. I'd rather that they offered me everything that they think I might need and let me pick and choose. On the other hand, that's what travel agents are for.

As for on-line vs. calling, I've always called in for what I needed. I can tell you this though....there are glitches in the system just like anything else. Recently there was an issue with the computer system saying that one of the resorts was at capacity for the New Year's festivities. In actuality, they were at only about 40% due to folks that wanted to book being told they would have to go elsewhere on property. Until the trouble was discovered and fixed that resort just kept reading as booked solid.
