Thumbs down Disney Rewards Dollars & Park Tickets

WARNING: You cannot use Disney Visa Rewards Dollars to purchase discounted Park tickets online

Those of us who now have this terrible card can only look back with fond memories to the days of The Magic Kingdom Club and its blanket discounts. I attempted to purchase 2 park-hoppers online today at Disneyland.com and saw no where to enter my Rewards Card # to use those dollars I've accumulated with the Disney Visa. [Those in the know have seen such an entry area on Disneystore.com]

So, I called Disneyland park direct and asked Guest Services if we can redeem Rewards Dollars on Ticket purchases. The answer was NO.

So - I did manage to get $40 off by buying ahead online from Disney - BUT I am again amazed at the limitations placed on this Rewards card. It's very much a here, but not there sort of treatment and frankly I'm done. I'll be closing the Rewards and the Disney Visa ASAP and trying to forget this and enjoy my upcoming trip. I will not get myself mad asking each venue if they do or do not honor the discounts promised when this card was advertised as the replacement of The Magic Kingdom Club. Trust me, its not worth it.

I agree mad hatter. Doing away with the Magic Kingdom Club was one of the worst decisions made.

WOW That is not good. That was the one and only reason i got the disney rewards VISA. Can't you redeem your reward points for disney dollars. . .then buy the tickets with them?

Question That's an idea...

I didn't think about that - could be an option. Of course, there is no way [that I know] to spend Disney Dollars online at Disneyland.com when buying tickets. They offer up to $40 off + free shipping if you buy your tickets prior to arrival. I was willing to do it over the phone, but that got shot down. Usually, I don't worry too much about saving every penny - but w/$40 off + my Rewards balance I was set to save mucho dinero on DL hoppers. I still got the online discount as I went ahead and ordered tics yesterday.

I used up the remaining Rewards dollars in conjunction with a 25% off coupon code on Halloween costumes on Disneystore.com. The rewards dollars work easily there - makes me wonder if this program isn't skewed by the Marketing dept. towards lower earning sections of the company. I think they know people will buy the tickets regardless, but its hard to move some of the poorer merchandise they are flooding the market with lately. [I will rant about Disney Stores somewhere else!]

I seem to remember Disney Visa commercials touting a mom being begged by her son to spend more on her visa to build up Rewards dollars for trips. Has anyone runinto any other road blocks when using Reward dollars to go on vacation? Or are they just welcome when buying mech. in parks?
