Another thought - I posted this in a comment elsewhere, but figured I'd give it a go here as well -
Does anyone know how you score admittance into the front of the monorail w/ the driver? My 4 year old has Autism Spectrum Disorder (think Rain Man Lite) and his obsession is trains - how awesome would that be! Do you ask ? Or do you have to sign on a wait list? Or do you hope to get picked while you wait? I just want to know if there is something I can do to make that happen or if it is all by chance. Thanks!

When you get to the platform where you wait for the monorail, just simply ask the attendant if you can sit up front. He or she will show you where to wait. As long as no one else is already waiting, you can get right on the next trip. I also believe there's a limit of 4 people that can get on. As a matter of fact, I use one of the 'Monorail conductor licenses' that we received as a bookmark when I read. They are always great about it, so just ask the attendant on the platform. Some of the best video we've taken from our trips was from the front of the monorail out the front window. Very cool, because the narration plays in the background while you're videotaping what feels like a 'private' tour.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Do this on the monorail from the TTC to Epcot because the ride is much longer and you will see a wonderful view of Epcot. Early in the morning it should be fairly easy to get on the front.

Yes, they are very good about it as long as you just simply ask. Last year when we went to WDW my sister and brother-in-law asked if they could bring my nephew in the front (he was 2 at the time) because he is OBSESSED with trains. He loved it!

On the Express and Epcot line you get a one way trip in the front. However on the resort line if you want you can go one full trip (round trip) but you need to let them know this when you arrive as each train is assinged a resort and when it pulls into that resort if people are waiting for the front cab they will have you move to the back.
We actually did this and it was great, I didnt tell my son what we were doing at first, then when the Monorail pulled up, I asked the guy if we could ride in front and he said SURE !! The look on my sons face was priceless ... it was a great view very fun, everyone should try this at least once !!

I have been in the front many times and I've never been offered this certificate, even when I was younger. I think this was an old practice that probably stopped somewhere down the line, although I have seen pictures of them so they do exist.
