Disney inconveniences thousands of guests...

We booked our little boys first trip to Disney months ago. It is now less than one month until our trip and we were just phoned today and told that we cannot stay at the Caribbean resort because it is being renovated. I wonder who dropped the ball here? They must have known this for awhile--I can't imagine they are going to up and renovate on a moments notice. Besides, I just saw it posted on the web--guess we were the last to know. Not to mention that fact that we have had our hearts set on staying at this resort and they are doing very little to make up for the inconvenience. They have offered to move us to another reort comparable in price--neither of which are appealling to us-- OR we can spend more money and upgrade to a deluxe resort (I guess it is slow season and the deluxe resorts have rooms available). So I guess they think they should profit from their mistakes!

Well I don't think it was right for Disney not to give you enough notice. But why not wait a little longer and stay at the resort you want. If you had to Pick go with Dixie Landings it is a great resort. I stayed there on our package deal. It's very wonderful

Actually rmartin, this was kinda a goof on their part. As I understand it, the renovations are to Old Port Royale and a couple of other buildings. They were going to stay open for the renovations but decided to close due to the logistics of not being able to have a food court etc. Also, I know a few people who were called last week and their trips were in the very near future as well. I suppose that they are trying to call everyone in the order of closest upcoming ressie to furthest away.

I'd be curious to hear what they offered you as alternate mod. resorts. Also, did they offer you a super deal if you wanted to upgrade to a deluxe? Sometimes they have been known to give great rates at the deluxes to make up for the inconvenience of not being able to stay at your selected resort. For example, the people who were staying at Shades of Green were moved to the Contemporary during the renovations there.

Anyway, try not to stress about it and enjoy your vacation.:&mickeyhe

I went snooping around (ok...so I went trolling) and found that the CBR is closing due to the OPR rehab. (according to DisneyNews.) It is because guests would have to go off property to get food and potentially get in the way of the work crews. There is going to be a new table service restaurant called Shutters put in during the rehab.

Also, people are talking about getting upgraded to deluxe accommodations for very little money. Frankly, that sorta burns me. We book the deluxe resorts partly because they are less crowded than the other resorts. Now with all these people getting these cheap upgrades it will be much more crowded. And yuppers, they are all paying about $35 a night less (US:$145/THEM:$109) than we are for the same stay in the same level accommodations.

I guess it just goes to show that Disney is like any company that has communications breakdowns. I'm sorry to hear of their oversight! Hopefully you got some sort of compensation!
