Disney Platinum Collection

I was just on disneyaholic's website when i came across the list of the movies for the Platinum Collection. Here they are:

Snow White- 2001
Beauty and the Beast- 2002
Lion King-2003
Aladdin-2004
The Little Mermaid-???
Bambi-???
Cinderella-???
The Jungle Book-???
101 Dalmatians-???
Lady and the Tramp-???

Somehow i dont like some of these titles. these are the ones i would replace:
Bambi,Lady and the Tramp,101 Dalmatians, and Cinderella.
And these are the ones i would bring in:
Fantasia,Dumbo,Song of the South( please released that),and I dont know.
What would you replaced?

Is that the order they will be released, so we aren't going to get Cinderella till 2007? I have the limited release of Little Mermaid and the last 3, but those DVDs are very poor as there is practically no bonus material. I really like Dumbo, but they just released it as a 60th anniversery. Jungle Book should be released around the time of Jungle Book 2 in theaters to hype it up. Fantasia should also be a platinum, but it was also just recently released. Song of the Soth needs to be released, but I highly doubt it happening soon.

Actually I dont know the release dates so they are not in order. But if someone does know please tell us.
Yeah it would be nice if they released Jungle Book when JB2
is in theaters like what happen with Peter Pan but hey they could released JB2 again on video and DVD when Jungle Book comes out like what they did for BATB

LP you woule not keep Cinderella in that list? It's a classic. I agree with the others and would pay almost anything for a dvd of SOTS with bonus material and everything.

The reason i didnt like Cinderella was that i liked it before but when they made Cinderella 2 it just lost interest. And i dont know many bonus features for Cinderella so it wouldnt be much like SW
and BATB.
Also if you didnt read this, i created a list of bonus features if SOTS comes out on DVD.Here is the list:
The Making of Song of the South
A Look at Splash Mountain(The History and Now)
Tribute to Joel Chandler Harris(TV Show on 1/18/56)
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Singalong
Disney Storytime(something for the kids about Brer Rabbit)
Games and more.

That would be neat to have a look at the rides based on the movies on the DVDs when certain movies are released. They sould have done that with Snow White and others.

I heard from a cast member that Little Mermaid will be part of the Platinum Collection, but wont be released until 2007 she said. I don't know how accurate that is though.

That is why I never bother with the cheapquills (with the exception of toy story)

The reason why the Platinum collection does not inculde Song of the South is beacause SotS is not a full-length animated feature. Only the animated features are eligible for the platinum collection all others just receive a "special edition" label like Mary Poppins

these are some of the reasons I could see why these title became part of the collection:

Snow White- The first and what a lot of people say the best
Beauty and the Beast- The Most critically acclaimed and the only aniamted feature to ever get nominated for a Best Picture Oscar
The Lion King-The highest grossing traditionally animated feature of all time
Aladdin- Part of the disney renaissance's big 4, it was the highest grossing before the Lion King.
The Little Mermaid-jump-started the animation renaissance and was the first to bear the 'stage musical' characteristic.
Bambi- extremely memorable and is considered one of the great classics
Cinderella- kick-started Disney's golden age after the war, a classic favorite of both the young and old and is rumoured to be Walt disney's favorite film.
The Jungle Book - Walt disney's last animated movie
101 Dalmatians - All I can think of is that the technology for 101 was supposed to be groundbreaking at the time, other than that, it was probably a top-grosser like the rest of the platinum editions are
Lady and the Tramp - I don't know why it's here either but it was probably a top-grosser

The main reason I think these films were inducted into the Platinum series was because they made huge money out of it int heir initial release. That's the only reason i can think of since if they reall want to honor the great classics then Walt's first 5 would all be in it.

undeserving snubs:
Dumbo - one of the first five
Pinocchio - What people say is the most technically perfect animated film by disney and is also one of the first 5.
Fantasia - Also part of the first 5, but with all the attention given to it during the time of "Fantasia Anthology" I think it's ok to get this out of the platinum collection, besides a lot of children don't really get it.
Sleeping Beauty - The only fairy tale not part of the platinum collection (probably because it was an initial bomb at the box office) It is also Walt's last fairy tale as well as the most expensive to make. Not to mention it has the most unique style of all the disney fairy tales.
Peter Pan - I don't get it, Pan was a classic, why is it not part of the platinum collection?
Lilo and Stitch - I know a lot of eyebrows are raised right now but Lilo and Stitch was one of the few hits of the late 90's and deserves at least a platinum treatment.
Mulan - another controversial choice to be a platinum classic but Mulan was the last Disney heroine, not to mention the last full-blown musical, it also earned a respectable profit.

other than that I'm quite satisfied with all those on the list and they all truly deserve induction in the platinum series

They've bumped the platinum releases for 2 per year instead of just one, this year it's Bambi (March) and Cinderella (October)

2006 will probably include The Little Mermaid

Do remember that this thread dates back to the last post being 10/11/2002. So it is a little...well...old.

Yeah I know, I was just browsing around for some more information about the Platinum Collection.

I love 'em all so much, but so far a lot of the covers have been pretty ugly and unprofessional looking.
