Universal Studios - Islands of Adventure OrlandoUniversal Studios and Islands Of adventure Talk. (including Islands of Adventure, CityWalk, Universal Studios Florida, Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, and area hotels)
Which place did you have more fun?
I've been to City Walk and both parks looked like a blast. I really would like to go to atleast one of these parks. I was told that IOA was mostly water rides????
Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on which park is more fun.
thanks

I think it depends on what you're looking for, I prefer the studios to IOA, but thats because it feels like there is a slower pace at the studios to me and I enjoy more of the rides! I'm quite scared of some of the rides at IOA and you do get very wet on some of them! Although saying that if I had to choose just one land out of either park, I would choose the Dr Seuss land in IOA (I can't remember its real name at the mo!).
But both parks are good, they both have something different to offer!

Previous Disney Trips:-
Sept '09, Sept '08, Dec '07, May '07 (with Mum), Nov '06, Mar '06, Oct '05, Sept '04, Sept '03, Aug '02, Sept '01, Dec '99, Sept '97, July '95 + 5 06 trips to Disneyland Paris.
Both parks are excellent although as Kebabs says, the Studios are far more relaxed with fewer thrill rides.
I was never a fan of the Studios but it's grown on me over the years and, although it's not a full day (we have it all done by lunch and then head to IoA), we'd never miss it off our schedule now.
The Mummy is my favorite ride here but Jaws and Earthquake (I think it's been re-themed and re-named as Disaster now) are great too. The new Simpsons ride sounds fun as well. Terminator and Shrek 4D are getting a bit "old-hat" now as we've done them enough times for the excitement to have worn off.
Still, there's I Love Lucy! Go here and at least you can say you've done the most boring attraction in theme park history (and if you do Narnia at Disney Studios, you'll have the whole set!!).
IoA is more of a thrill-seekers park and attracts more school/college kids in big groups although this normally isn't a problem (just a shame they don't have a volume control!). There are some very wet rides (Popeye and Pluto's Bilge Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls are awesome - but you will get very, very wet!) and some mildly wet rides (Jurassic Park) but Hulk (huge coaster), Spiderman (3D indoor thrill ride), Dr Doom's Fearfall (one of those things where you shoot up a huge tower) and Duelling Dragons (mirrored coaster rides - get in line for a front row seat to get the full effect - far better!) are all dry and great fun.
There's plenty of other rides and attractions at IoA too and it's much more of a full day park than the Studios.
Depending on crowd levels and the time of year you visit, it is possible to do the best of both parks in one day (we always do - although we return for at least another day to do the rest) but you'll need to get there for opening and leave at closing time.

Popeye and Pluto??? I knew that dog couldn't be trusted. LOL I think you meant Bluto.
Anyway, yeah, this all depends on your part. IOA is a big thrill pak with many high speed coasters and big water rides. Do not miss Dudely DoRights ride. It's a must do.
Studio's, as winkster said, is definitely a half day park. Especially if you stay on site and you have the all day ride pass. You can be in and out in a few hours. A few good rides, but the place as a whole just looks a little worn down and needs some major referbs.

We'll be there in less than 3 weeks, I'll let you know how it went. The last time we were at Universal was 1991

I dont think I could take the Dr Doom ride. The looks of those rides just freak me out!
The Hulk looks fun though. So does Suess land. We are going next February. I didnt realize that you could do both parks in one day. That may be the way to go.
Do you get wet on Jaws?
I have to ask, I hate getting wet. I wont get into the Splash Mountain story... you know, the one where I was the ONLY person to get soaked!!!

It's one of those rides where you can either stay completely dry or at worst, have a wet leg or a wet arm.
You won't get soaked but if you sit on the left hand edge (as you face front) there's a fair chance you'll be walking round the park with a damp arm or leg for a while.
Also, when you sit down, it's not uncommon for the seats to be wet too.
I wouldn't let that put you off though. It's a great ride!
ps. I know what you mean about Splash Mountain - we've come off soaked to the skin before too!

Good to know, I like to get the video camera out for pretty much everything. I was worried about taping on that attraction.

As long as you anticipate the big splashes you should have time to cover up even if sat on the left hand side. We're only talking splashes anyway, not torrents of the wet stuff!
The biggest splashes (I think there are only 2) are, as you'd expect, towards the end of the ride - I could warn you where but that would ruin the surprise!

I heard on the news yesterday that part of Studios burned down. They said NY city streets and a ride, I think they said King Kong??? Any info on that?
We were going to try to get by there when we visit this month but weren't sure if it would be worth it. In our experience, the lines are VERY long, about 2-3 hours at times. Any thoughts?

They were talking about the West Coast. Everything is fine at the Florida attraction.

I think it was the Hollywood Universal Studios that had the fire. The Orlando park doesn't have a King Kong ride any more - I think it was replaced by The Mummy.
Not sure about lines in July. We normally go on early ay when the Studios are very quiet and IoA not much busier.

I agree. Dr Doom is a big let-down. We stood in line for ages and it was over in seconds. As soon as you get up in the air, you see the parking lot (and surrounding area) which kind of spoils it a bit too.
We've done the similar ride on the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas - now that's a much better version!!!
