One day in Disney is better than none !!! 25 trips and counting to WDW EW Contemp. 83, Contemp. 84, Ft. Wilderness 85 EW Contemp. 86,Class trip 86, Oak Island Cove 02, Radisson 03, Radisson 03, POR 04, Radisson 04 Renaissance Inn 04, POR 2\05, POP 3\05, POR 06, POR 07, POR 08, AKL 10\08, AKL 3\09, Jambo House 5\09........ too many to list now :-)
They haven't been 100% concrete on alot of the details involving the new addition to Islands of Adventure. From what seems to be out there they will officially open up the land around Memorial Day. They will likely have some soft opening before then but the land is mainly shops and rides that have merely been rethemed (i.e. The Flying Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge are rides that existed that are getting a HP overlay).
The blockbuster new attraction is a bit of an iffier proposal; I have heard anything on the date from later this year to sometime next year until it's completely operational and online. I really haven't heard that they plan on having it open in any capacity when they open up the land.

I'm really looking forward to it too.
I'm a big fan of Universal (we always go there on at least 2 days when at WDW). I enjoy the HP films and always watch them although I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan - but even so, the HP area at UIoA sounds really good.

I heard that Harry Potter is opening in the middle of June...Like June 18th or 19th at IofA at Universal...we are going in October and love HP....we have all read all the books and go on opening days for all the movies...so, we are looking forward to seeing it...
I don't especially like IofA at Universal...but we want to go to see HP...I love the walk about right outside of the Universal Parks

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and wonder if any of you have now been to HP at Islands of Adventure? My children and I head down in September (from Atlanta) for one of our WDW trips, and I've reserved a couple nights at one of the Universal hotels so we can try Universal for the first time (much to DD's happiness---she's quite the ride daredevil). I wonder how the Wizarding World looks...?
Best,
Lori

That's good that you are staying at the Universal resort. You can get into the park before it opens. Universal Studios lets the people who are in the resorts get into HP an hour before the general public. I think they're still doing that.
I went on the second day HP opened to the public. We got there an hour before the park opened and the line was already very long. We had to wait a total time of 3 hours to get on the FJ ride. I'm glad we got there when we did though. They were only letting so many people in the area at a time because it was so crowded. The wait times were even longer later, and once you left that area you had to wait on line to get back in again.
The area does look great, though. It's just like the movies and has a working post office- The Owl Post, where you can send a post card or letter out and they will put a postage stamp on there that says it came from Hogsmeade.
The FJ ride is really good too. It combines some technology that you haven't seen in the other rides anywhere. You should really enjoy this ride. The castle is huge, and before you get on the actual ride, Harry Potter and his friends show up too.
The dragon challenge roller coaster is good too. It's a high thrill roller coaster that DD will love. Flight of the Hipppogrith is a kiddie roller coaster in the same section if you are bringing any young kids with you.
Great info! I'm bringing DS, 9, as well who is much more, ah, cautious, about his riding than his big sis. He finally rode Expedition Everest and enjoyed it, but declines Space Mountain after riding once or twice. Every trip is a new adventure, though, as he changes his thrill-rating each time (and not necessarily to greater and greater thrills each trip LOL).
DD is over the moon that we're staying at the Hard Rock Hotel---she's a guitarist and really, really interested in all things musical right now (of course she is, she's 14, right?).
Thanks for the info. I wonder if when one uses the "Front of the Line" privilege, if one still sees the interesting things in the queue? Of course, I understand that only two of the three HP rides use the "Front of the Line" deal...maybe FJ isn't one of them?

Yes, FJ is the one that doesn't have the express pass. As long as they are still giving the hour early pass, you will want to go to that one first. And it's really cool to see inside the castle. If you are a big HP fan, I would suggest going through the main line of Dragon Challenge as well. The line hasn't been that long lately.
On some of the rides you do miss interesting setups. But if it's really busy, I'm sure you will enjoy the short lines even more. As a guest at Hard Rock, your room key will be the express pass, you will just show it at the rides. So have fun!
i cannot wait to go to the Wizarding World of HP!!!!
we are staying at POR but making a day trip over to Universal JUST for this!!!! i've never been, but the whole HP addition is just awesome

I think we'll be making a trip or three extra from POR too. We usually go two or three times during each stay anyway but if we like the new HP bit that much, we may using a few of our free mornings or afternoons to pop over to Universal again.
