This use to be easy without kids.... Now with them it gets harder to pick a resort to stay... I have a DB 6 DD 2.... My wife is sick of the The All Stars and POP.... That's beacuse we always stayed there... Then we look at Carribean Beach and we think "well the rooms are so far apart, the kids will be dead just from the resort". Port Orleans we looked at. Then again the kids might not like the theme.... Then came Polynesian and Beach Club... We look and said Just because of the pool and the locations, is it worth the money... Now where looking at Animal Kingdom lodge.... Animals and good pool might be the answer... This is a big deal beacuse we are asking 2 other couple with there kids almost the same age except a teenager to come along.... Trying to make sure everybody enjoys themself with the right price.... Me.... I'd be at Pop or All stars beacuse we are never in the room... But, That's me.... Any advice would be great....
Thanks

Oh, what a dilemma. I think more or less along the same lines as your wife, but its for me, the kids have fun where ever we stay.
I want to first comment on the Riverside. We have twin boys that are 4 and we've stay at POR over 10 times since we started taking them (FYI, their first trip was at 9 month) and they love the resort. They have a great playground, a great pool and the open area to run in is great for them to burn off the excess energy.
That being said, We LOVE the AKL. It has everything for a great price. You can see animals from just about anywhere, if not they have the outdoor viewing areas, they have night time viewing with a night scope, the pool is good and they actually have a kids activity center where they have crafts scheduled during the day or if you want to have an adult night out, they have a sitting service at night which feeds them and shows them a movie. I believe that's from like 7pm to Midnight but don't quote me on that one. Another plus is the dining options, you have two great restaurants on top of the food court against the POR which has a great food court and a decent restaurant.
To sum up, you can't go wrong with either of the two, but if I had to choose, I would go with AKL, you won't regret paying a little extra.

One day in Disney is better than none !!! 25 trips and counting to WDW EW Contemp. 83, Contemp. 84, Ft. Wilderness 85 EW Contemp. 86,Class trip 86, Oak Island Cove 02, Radisson 03, Radisson 03, POR 04, Radisson 04 Renaissance Inn 04, POR 2\05, POP 3\05, POR 06, POR 07, POR 08, AKL 10\08, AKL 3\09, Jambo House 5\09........ too many to list now :-)
Then we look at Carribean Beach and we think "well the rooms are so far apart, the kids will be dead just from the resort".
Caribbean Beach was our very first Disney Resort. And the distance almost deterred us from staying there as well. BUT.... The rooms themselves are a bit larger than the other resorts. And you can request a room close to the main building. We got a room in Martinique and would walk to the main building every day with no problem.
Also, the Caribbean Beach Resort now has the Pirate themed rooms that the kids will love. The beds are in the shape of Pirate ships, the walls look like island huts, etc....
We have stayed at both the Pop and Beach Club. The Kids loved both. Some of the benefits of the Beach Club were great pool meant no trip to water park, Cape May Cafe = Character meal down stairs, walking distance or boat ride to Epcot and MGM, Kids Club at your home resort, fun stuff for the grown-ups. That being said we didn't have more fun at the Beach Club but those trips were definitely more relaxing if you can afford it. I highly recommend trying the Sand Castle Club for the kids (you might feel a little guilty until they tell you how much fun they had) and enjoying an adult only meal at the Yachtman's Steakhouse.
Good luck hope this helps with your decision.

Re: Animal Kingdom Lodge in play
The AKL is great but it is alittle far and the pool is ok but not the greatest. The beach club (the Yacht club is the same) has the best pool and it also has a walk way to the ESPN zone and EPCOT. I think it is the best family freindly hotel at Disney.
AKL is the most wonderful lodge we've ever stayed in. It brings out the kid in all of us when you get up and walk over to the balcony and see animals gazing right outside. If you or your kids love animals, this is the place to be - but by all mean splurge for the savannah view room.
The lobby is amazing, the rooms are a bit dark, but that is part of the theme. We really want to go back there, just been a little over budget recently. We are staying at moderates. It is worth it, at least one time.
... the rooms are a bit dark, but that is part of the theme.
I think is this another great part of the resort. Since the room is so dark naturally, when you close the shades to the room, it may be 2 in the afternoon but inside the room it looks like its 2am. This is fantastic if the little one's are trying to take an afternoon nap.

I think your best choice is the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Seeing the animals is fun for everyone, the resort is absolutely beautiful, and if you bring the Lion King to watch... what a great experience! . But I'm sure any resort you choose to stay at will still have a trip filled with great memories. Good Luck!

I definatly liket he Port Orleans french Quarter! I Love the Animal Kingdon Lodge(jambo House) Kidani does not have a food court. In my opinion animal kingdom lodge is a good choice however I feel that the disney Buses don't come as frequent as some of the other Hotels!!
