For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

DM and I are going down to Disney World in February to watch my sister compete in a cheerleading competition. On our first day down there I made ADRs for 50s Prime Time Cafe. We have never eaten there before and I was just wondering what everyone thought about their experience there. I know it can be a lot of fun especially if you get a server that is really into the character. While I have a really good sense of humor my mom is a little different. I think she'll get a kick out of it though but I do have visions of her not eating all of her vegetables and then ordering dessert and them bringing out veggies on a plate and her still wanting her dessert.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

Meg,

I ate here last time I was down there, and you are correct, it is one of the best examples of themed dining. You can expect to be kept on-task about all manners (hats off, elbows off the table, yes ma'am, no ma'am, etc.) The food is good, but be prepared because the staff is usually very in character, but they should have fun with you. But if everyone brings a good sense of humor in addition to a good appetite, all should be well!

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I ate there last October, and it was so much fun! My waitress called me "cousin", pointed out the restroom and warned my to wash my hands afterward and told me I had to set the table because that was part of my chores. The decor is great too - there are a bunch of little areas with kitchen tables in them, and the walls look like a typical 1950's kitchen, and there are TV sets that show clips from '50's-era shows (although they do cheat a little - I saw a clip from the "Dick Van °O°°O°°O°°O°" show, and I believe that came out in the '60's.) And the food was yummy. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I certainly did!

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I wouldn't worry about your Mom. Considering that it is Disney, that the servers are role playing (you might warn her in advance), she may just play along and prove to have a better sense of humor than you think.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I make it a point to eat here everytime I go to WDW. It's one of my favorite places to eat! The waiters/waitresses are very much in character and they will pickon you if you don't eat your veggies. You need to go in with a good sense of humor. If you are looking for something a little more tame, I wouldn't suggest this place.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I love this restaurant and am a very fussy eater, so we usually tell the lady as we book in that I am fussy, and they make allowances for this, and I've never had trouble about not eating certain things, they just pick on something else! One time in there I think I had my elbows on the table, and they told me off and made me stand in the corner on a chair!!!

This is one of the better places to eat. I am sure that your mom will be fine. Just explain to her about the theme of the place and I am sure she will go along with it.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

On our last visit I did not finish my veggies (fried chicken is a big meal) and order dessert as it was included in the DDP. Much to my surprise my dessert came out as my left of veggies covered in Whipped Cream. My kids (2 and 4) loved this, I did eventually get my real dessert.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

Hello Meg,
We make it a point to stop there at least once per trip. The food is good home cooking, and the servers are great! I NEVER eat my veggies, that's just how I am but they always gave me dessert! LOL She can always slide them onto your plate is she gets a little embarased.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

My husband loves this place. He ends up in the corner every time we go. He loves embarassing us all. The first time we went there, my dd was 7 and she did not want to eat her veggies, and a passing waiter stopped by and showed her how to hide them inside a roll, so that "mom or Aunt Sue" would not find them. DD found this very funny and jumped into the spirit if the dinner! Great fun and the best fried chicken!

Thanks everyone! I'm actually really looking forward to eating here now. I think if I like it enough (which I'm sure I will) I will take FH there on our Disneymoon.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I agree that letting your Mom know in advance what to expect, will make all of the difference. We are taking my niece who has never been to WDW before. Now she on the other hand, is not going to be told what to expect but that is because I am sure she will just love it.

Re: For anyone who has eaten at 50s Prime Time

I love this place. You will have a great time. Just tell your mom, hey they are just having fun. My mom loves this place and wishes there was one around the corner from her house.

Last time we went the desert menu was on a viewmaster. Nothing's funnier than a picture of someone looking at a view master.

The food is great. It nice to sit down to a "home" cooked meal after eating mostly fast food all week.

But be warned: If you order the Dad's super sundae, share. There were 3 of us and we didn't know how big it was and we each ordered one. I couldn't understand why the waitress looked as us funny and said are you sure. Oh My.....they are hugh. I will have to see if I can get a picture of it uploaded.
