This is the first time I am going to WDW, at the end of August beginning of September. Can you give any good advise? Saying don't do it won't help. My daughter is 7. This will be her 3rd trip at WDW. My wife and myself did Disney in January, March and May. May we did with my daughter twice. For reasons of our own we are going at the time stated above. I know the temp will be high but all of you who find this to be the best time for you to go can give some good advise. I figure early mornings and late afternoon runs will be best giving that 1 to 4 slot time for swimming or napping. Nights I guess will be best. Carrying one of those waterspray fans will help. I see them here for 7 dollars. Not sure what they are there. Next time I may try Christmas week or School winter recess. There has got to be some of you who find this the most convenient time to go. So all of you who are in the know, please help. You might be helping others who are considering this time.
We went the first week of Sept in 2008. Yes .. it was hot .. but you expect it and prepare. We spent a LOT of time in the pool .. and did most of our park stuff in the evening hours. On days that we were in the parks early I usually took along the bathing suits and extra clothes so the kids could get wet without having to worry about them being in wet clothes on the drive back to thje resort or during dinner.
We also tried to get inside when possible .. like the Nemo Show and Lion King shows .. it felt good to sit inside and cool off.
I took along water bottles and fans. The fans are like $20 at WDW so we get ours at Walmart ahead of time.
Umm .. thats all I can think of right now .. let me know if you have any other questions !

Also, be prepared for regular afternoon thunderstorms. That's normal weather for Florida in the late summer.

As Alice mentioned the biggest things you'll deal with are usually weather related. The highs will be somewhere in the 90's or upper 80's, and it rains every day in the mid to late afternoon. The other big thing to watch is that is the middle of hurricane season, so just have some alternate plans for some poor weather days.

we went in the end of september last year and it was hot...we did what we could to find things indoors and drank lots of water. it wasnt very crowded so that was a plus. if you plan on actually going for christmas be prepared for lots of crowds and lines everywhere you still get to see alot but its alot of waiting. the weather is cooler i remember it only getting into to 80s once or twice when we went december 2007

No negativity here. We usually go in Sept. Mostly because of the dinning plan but also because thats the best time to meet up with our family that goes at the same time. Yeah, it can get hot but it's still a good time to go. Usually the crowds are not too bad, although they were this past Sept. I think people have caught on to Sept. Any, already have my reservations for Sept this year. See ya then.

We have done the late AUgust early September a few times... and we are doing it again this year!
Yes, it is hot.... but the crowds are pretty good since school is in for many states and we take advantage of the free dinning that is offered.
Have fun!

We have gone at this time for the past 3 years! I don't have anything to compare it to, because we have never gone at a different time of year. But, we love it! The crowds seem to have gotten larger each year. But, compared to what I have heard about other times of year, it's really not that bad. I have no complaints, except sometimes you do have to change some plans for weather related reasons. We got stuck in Japan for an extended time after dinner at Teppan Edo, but it was kind of neat to look around at all the stuff in the shops! We always take advantage of the dinning plan too! Hope you have a GREAT time!

We are going from Aug 21-28 and our kids are actually missing the first three days of school for it-We found that the advantages of going this last week were great, starting with the price of our package being the main one! Someone at Disney told me that the Orlando area schools go back then too, another plus for the crowds..The heat will be the main drawback, but we live on the coast of NC so hopefully we can take it! I have a question for Goofy'smyfav-how did you like Tepan Edo?? We have that booked, is it good??
Just remember that the humidity level is through the roof that time of year, so bring tons of hardcore sunscreen and drink lots of water.

Expect larger than normal crowds in mid-August this year. There's a Star Wars convention in Orlando from August 12 - 15. I'm sure people are going to either arrive a few days earlier, or stay longer and go to Disney while in town.
