Yes DLR had a lengthy refurb a while ago. It features new scenes such as Toy Story and other classics. Kids will in fact LOVE it!

Maybe kids will love it but those of us "Disney Purist" adults may not. What did they do at DL? Are the characters strewn throughout the ride or are they at the very end in their own section? ( please tell me that they are in their own section....)

Re: It's a Small World refurb

Lets not forget that It's a Small World , has already had a major refub not to long ago.
The intro area had a major overhaul and many of the figures were changed.
The ride you are seeing now was not the same ride six ago.
Sometimes things change.
I have been going to the parks since the year it opened and it is still the "Best place on Earth!"

Re: It's a Small World refurb

What figures changed? To me it looks the same (pretty much) as it always has. Except for the main facade. And a little change is one thing but to completely change the ride by throwing Disney characters into it might ruin it.

1964 - Disneyland *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKt_o6AflbI*

1974 - Disney World (right at the 4:00 mark in the video) *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sABb9d28AGU*

2008 - Disney World *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3QXY...ature=related*

I just cannot imagine Pooh running around in the Scandinavian section. Or Nemo jumping out of the water near the South Seas section. Or even Mickey Mouse belting out the song in the North American section.

My point is this:
It doesn't matter if they change some glitter or change a dress/pants from blue to red. They can even redo the sound system. All of this makes the ride last longer and makes it more enjoyable. But, adding Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, etc... may ruin the attraction.

I'm not saying that refurbing the ride is a bad thing. And who knows, if they add the characters to the extreme background then maybe it will not be so bad. But I doubt that it will stop there. Pretty soon all of the dolls from the various countries may be little Snow Whites and Cinderellas and Prince Charmings.

Re: It's a Small World refurb

I hate this ride ¬.¬, went on it in Paris and in my opinion it was the most annoying song ever and the dolls scared me
However i do agree that you should experience it its one of those rides where you cant have a true experience without seeing it.
However i havnt yet experience the Florida version.
9 Days till im back there so might give it another chance?
But i think it should be allowed to be modernised and have a section added at the end with characters.
Just my opinion though x

Re: It's a Small World refurb

Gah! That reminds me! My family has to go to the MK before the first to ride this!

Since I'm but a teenager, I cannot call myself a Disney purist. I had only gone on IaSW twice before MK's first major refurb. I rode the new ride last February, and had no problems with it. This may be because I'm not a disney purist. I think it still captures the charm of the original...

Who knows what this refurb will bring...

Re: It's a Small World refurb

its ok disneyland had a refurb a year ago and you cant really notice the disney characters in it except lilo and sttch and other obvious ones like the three cabalarros. but a classic should never be tampered with like alice in wonderland or snow whites scary adventure. i wish they didnt refurb IaSW here in california.

Re: It's a Small World refurb

Grr, I love classic rides; Hate it when they get all modern. Hopefully theres just a fresh coat of paint in store other than replacing and adding characters. PS: Im sorry to all of you missing Small World on you're trip! ! Now you just need to ride the rest of the attractions to the fullest !

Re: It's a Small World refurb

Hmmm...well, that's a bummer, because we'll be there in September and will thus miss a great ride. BUT...we went to DL for the first time in May and rode IASW, and it was fine. I honestly didn't even pay attention to the Jasmine, Ariel, etc., as they are precisely like the current dolls, but look enough like the movie characters for one to notice. I did notice that the general DL ride was more logically organized, and prettier. It would actually be cool if they change it to be a bit more like DL's version...
