Port Orleans Riverside:
Southern mansions line a picturesque waterway reminiscent of the Mississippi River. There are six pools, with a water slide in the feature pool. This moderately priced Hotel offers one full-service restaurant, plus other dining options.

Summary Thanksgiving Stay

Reviewer's Comments

My family (wife, DS11, DS 9 and DD 7) loved this resort! Kids swam in the small pool nightly and went over to the big pool one morning. Food court was great! Very conveinient location and transportation(we drove so we had our own car, but we did use the boat to DT Disney and the bus once or twice)

Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Summary love POR

Reviewer's Comments

We have stayed at the POR and at the All Star Music Resort...loved the Port Orleans more by far! (Although the AS Resort was nice, too.) We are a family of five and with three kids it is difficult to stay on a budget for a room. The alligator bayou section of POR has 900+ rooms with trundle beds that pull out and can accomodate five people.....and this is cheaper than a family suite or two rooms at a value resort. When I first arrived at POR I thought to myself "....I could just stay here for our vacation and not even see a theme park and be perfectly happy!" It is just so beautifully landscaped. I reccommend it to anyone who asks and some that don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary Disapointed

Reviewer's Comments

After staying in most of the value resorts, I was really looking forward to the Riverside. I have to say, I found there was not much difference in the quality of the room. Next time I plan to stay at a higher quality room, and hope it makes me feel my money is well used.

Summary I love this place!

Reviewer's Comments

Having stayed at POR on 5 occasions, I think it\'s safe to say I love this place! We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Orlando.

The theming is excellent. Nothing like the brashness of the value resorts, this is a far subtler affair with large airy buildings with the public areas decorated in pastel shades.

The rooms are slightly darker with dark wood furniture. Lighting is, as with most hotel rooms, not great but it\'s enough. The gloominess isn't helped by the covered walkways immediately outside the rooms which prevent a lot of the light coming in but they also keep the Florida heat out!

The individual air-con units can be noisey but we soon got used to them and had no trouble sleeping with the air-con on. They are also very powerful and can be used to ensure you have a room like a fridge to collapse into after a day running round the theme parks in the searing sun!

My only major complaint about POR is the housekeeping which is slack to say the least. As a previous review has said, housekeepers appear to do the minimum - ie. change towels and make the beds. We stayed for 2 weeks and shelves etc went undusted and so were very dirty by the time we left. Sheets were not tucked into the beds properly and, in some cases, beds were not even properly made! It's such a shame that POR is continually let down by it's poor housekeepers.

Housekeeping aside though, the food court is great - huge and airy with a wide selection of dishes available.

The restaurant is adequate. The menu isn't exciting and I wouldn't want to eat there much as there's not enough on the menu to make me want to return again and again.

The bar is very comfortable although they seem to be trying to please everyone with TVs for sports, a kiddies style entertainer (not my style but he's hugely popular with famlies) and a more "grown-up" guitar player and singer who was fantastic! The cocktail menue is also well worth exploring!

The reception area is a delight too - cool, airy and welcoming after a very long journey. Staff (sorry, cast members) have always been very friendly, welcoming and helpful too. One word of caution though - the airline check in line can be absolutely huge, snaking out of reception and off down towards the food court.

There's an arcade area too with a good choice of games although the air-con in here could do with being turned up a bit. Too warm for my liking!

On top of that, there's horse and carriage rides, fishing, bike and surry-bike hire, hair brading and the fantastic marina where you can catch a free boat service to and from Downtown Disney (stopping at Port Orleans French Quarter on the way). This trip is another of the many reasons I love POR so much - it's just such a relaxing ride in the sun with the water lapping at the shores.

Some criticisms seem to have been aimed at POR regarding it's size and the distance between accomodation buildings and the main services (reception, food court etc). For me, the size is all part of the attraction and I love strolling through the beautifully landscaped grounds. And after all, you don't come to Disney expecting not to walk do you!

In short then, POR has everything I want for a fantastic haven away from the hustle an bustle of the parks. I'd recommend it to anyone!
