The action helps the ailing film industry, which has struggled to attract viewers back inside due to concerns over the more transmissible Delta form of Covid-19.

It follows the success of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, the first Marvel picture to be released solely in theaters in more than two years.

The superhero film has so far made more than $166 million (£120 million) worldwide, making it one of the biggest pandemic-era box office performers.

In August, Disney CEO Bob Chapek called Shang-45-day Chi’s theater exclusive release “an intriguing experiment for us,” a remark that the film’s main actor, Simu Liu, slammed.

The popularity of the film appears to have affected the studio’s theatrical strategy for the remainder of the year.

While Eternals, The Last Duel, and West Side Story will all have a 45-day window, the animated musical Encanto will only be in theaters for 30 days after its November premiere before making its way to the Disney+ streaming service.

During the epidemic, Disney had been experimenting with simultaneous theater and online premieres for some of its greatest pictures, like Marvel’s Black Widow and the origins of Cruella.

Scarlett Johansson, the star of the film Black Widow, filed a lawsuit alleging that the approach lost her money due to lower box office sales.

Disney responded angrily, and the legal case is still ongoing.
