Owen Wilson has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming family adventure spookfest ‘Haunted Mansion,’ which is based on one of the company’s most popular theme park rides.
Wilson will play with LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish in a production that has been classified as an ensemble piece, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Justin Simien, who previously directed ‘Dear White People’ and ‘Bad Hair,’ will direct the feature film from a script by Katie Dippold, making his big-budget studio debut.
Wilson became a fan-favorite as Mobius, a middle manager who collaborates with Tom Hiddleston’s lord of mischief in Marvel’s Loki, which premiered on Disney+ in June and July.
The Haunted Mansion will be the latest Disney film to be based on a theme park experience. The studio’s Jungle Cruise made $193.7 million at the global box office this summer, plus additional profits from its Premier Access distribution on Disney Plus. It has already been confirmed that there will be a sequel.
In 2003, a film based on Haunted Mansion was released. The Eddie Murphy-led comedy was a minor movie office hit, collecting $182.3 million worldwide on a reported $90 million production budget.
