In honor of Lightning McQueen Day on September 5th, Disney+ is premiering an exclusive clip from Cars on the Road. The Disney+ series is a spinoff of Disney and Pixar’s blockbuster Cars franchise, and it features the return of Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy as the voices of Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, respectively. On September 5, we celebrate Lightning McQueen and his No. 95 on Lightning McQueen Day. This is only a few days before Cars on the Road premieres on Disney+. Fans may now listen to the theme tune, see the opening titles, and view the music for Episode 3, “Salt Fever.”
In the “Salt Fever” video, Mater races over an airfield while armed with missiles strapped to his rusty skin. Even Lightning McQueen has trouble keeping up with him when he reaches speeds of 175 miles per hour. Mater exclaims, “I. Am. Speed!” as Lightning tells him to slow down.
The soundtrack, which is available starting today, contains the musical skills of 79 musicians and 17 vocalists, and displays notable moments from the series, including the entire version of the theme song plus the infectiously toe-tapping “Trucks” and show-stopping “Brain on Wheels.”
Wilson voiced Lightning McQueen in the first Cars film, a fast and furious racing vehicle who gets arrested in a sleepy little town and has to perform community service to make up for some property damage. During his time there, he made his first true friend in Mater and fell in love with Sally (Bonnie Hunt), a Porsche who served as the town prosecutor.
The focus shifted to Mater in the sequel and other shorts, and the original plot of racing was mostly abandoned in favor of more absurd locations and plot twists. Whether as daredevils, professional wrestlers, time-travelers or even in one book, saving Santa Car and helping delivery Christmas, the duo would find themselves in unlikely conflicts perfect for selling incredibly specific variant toys.
