The live-action adaptation of Disney’s famous animated picture “The Little Mermaid” will debut in theaters during Memorial Day Weekend 2023 (May 26th, 2023) before being released on Disney+ at a later date.
“The Little Mermaid,” directed by Rob Marshall, returns to Disney with a live-action adaptation of the animation classic. Halle Bailey, a multitalented singer and performer who you may recognize from the “Black-ish” spinoff sitcom “Grown-Ish,” plays the lead character. A remarkable cast, including Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, joins Halle Bailey in the film.
The film will have some new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as the iconic Menken-Ashman songs from the animated original.
Filming began early this year in the United Kingdom and Italy.
If you can’t wait until May 2023, you can watch the original animated version on Disney+ right now.
