Disney’s New ‘Avengers’-themed Roller Coaster Will Feature Iron Man

If you’re already excited for Avengers: Infinity War, brace yourself, because the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a lot more realistic. You’ll soon be able to soar alongside Tony Stark as part of a heroic adventure when the brand new Avengers-themed roller coaster debuts at Disneyland Paris. Details revealed during the announcement at D23 Expo Japan this past weekend were slim, but the ride is promised to be a “high-speed, hyper-kinetic adventure” that sees park guests teaming up with Iron Man and other familiar Marvel characters.

Set to take the place of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Walt Disney Studios — the second park at the resort formerly known as Euro Disney — this Iron Man coaster will bring plenty of comic book thrills to life. With a speedy take-off, inversions and corkscrews aplenty, the pre-existing indoor attraction serves as a solid base for the kind of antics and adventures the Avengers find themselves in. (Aerosmith fans, don’t fret — the version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is here to stay.)

The news comes on the heels of last year’s announcement that Disneyland Paris would be constructing the first-ever Marvel hotel. The transformation of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will bring artifacts and props on display within its lobby and offer rooms with stylized posters honoring the superheros when it debuts in 2020. Later this summer, a seasonal Marvel event will bring Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Widow and Star-Lord characters into Walt Disney Studios Park for entertainment and meet-and-greets for the very first time.

Marvel is clearly landing at Disneyland Paris in a big way, and if the parks were interested in rounding out a full super hero land within Walt Disney Studios Park, the blueprint could draw itself. Just around the bend is The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror — an attraction which was brilliantly re-themed to incorporate Guardians of the Galaxy at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort just last year.

The forthcoming Avengers-themed roller coaster is just one of five Marvel rides at Disney Parks worldwide. Hong Kong Disneyland will soon transform Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters into an Ant-Man and the Wasp-helmed shooting adventure, and Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy-themed roller coaster is promised to host an innovative new ride system when it opens 2021 as part of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Marvel fanatics should feel free to get excited about what’s to come, because Disney has not faltered with incorporating the superheros into park attractions. The two Marvel rides currently in operation — Iron Man Experience at Hong Kong Disneyland and Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! At Disney California Adventure — both quickly became the highest-rated attractions at each theme park after opening last year.
