This Amazing Space Mountain Fun Fact Will Make You Love It Even More

Space Mountain is unquestionably the greatest attraction at Disneyland, but we just uncovered a truth that has made us even more fond of it. A NASA astronaut assisted in the creation of the popular ride before it debuted at the Anaheim park on May 27, 1977.

Though Walt Disney came up with the notion in the 1960s, he required technology to catch up to his brilliant design in order for it to become a reality. It took more than a decade for Space Mountain to be authorized, and Mercury 9 and Gemini 5 astronaut Gordon Cooper was called on as a consultant to make the experience as genuine as possible.

“He wanted to make sure that the attraction incorporated information gleaned during NASA’s early space missions and that the overall experience would give Guests a realistic feeling of actual space flight,”

says the Disneyland Resort Website.

How much cooler does Space Mountain seem now that it’s been certified by astronauts? Thank you very much, Gordon!
