Universally, you can rely on Disney-Pixar movies to be way more emotional than any animated movie has a right to be. More than just about any other entertainment company, Pixar has mastered the art of making kids movies astonishingly relatable to the grown-ups in the audience.
Still, the first trailer for Cars 3 is way more harrowing than we anticipated.
We don’t see much in this 49-second teaser, but we can deduce the main thrust of the movie. In short, something very bad happens to our hero, Lightning McQueen.
As always, the attention to detail is second to none. Just listen to the realistic sounds and pore over the exacting recreation of oval racing crammed into this surprisingly emotional trailer. Is that an electric car racing amongst the Piston Cup champs?
Cars 3 debuts in U.S. theaters on June 16th, 2017. We can’t wait—even if it won’t feature our favorite cartoon car character, the beloved and dearly departed Paul Newman as Doc Hudson.
