Walt Disney World will be participating in Force Friday II, a worldwide shopping event that’s tied to “Star Wars” merchandise this weekend. The goods will go on sale just after midnight on Friday morning.
Disney Springs shoppers can register for the event outside the World of Disney store starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. Participants will be issued numbered wristbands on a first-come, first-serve basis. Customers can return to the store by 11:30 p.m., when they’ll be queued up in sequential order before the doors open at 12:01 a.m.
Disney suggests that Force Friday folks park in the Lime Garage, the northernmost of the two Disney Springs parking facilities.
Major retailers – including Walmart, Apple, Target, Toys R Us, GameStop, Disney Store and others — around the globe are offering up fresh merchandise, some of which is tied to the upcoming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” The film, starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Mark Hamill, comes to theaters on Dec. 16.
The initial Force Friday was held in 2015 in conjunction with the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Disney and Lucasfilm are also celebrating an augmented reality presentation in support of “The Last Jedi.” Fans armed with the Star Wars smartphone app and within 20 miles of select landmarks will be able to watch a 10-second animation of a Star Destroyer and two TIE Fighters. The U.S. sites include Central Park in New York, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hollywood sign in California and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
