Deputies claim that the Swan Reserve Hotel’s lobby was the scene of the 44-year-old Kissimmee resident’s strange behavior on May 31. The Marriott-owned and -operated hotel is situated on the premises of the Disney World Resort. The man was apparently carrying a trolley with the Star Wars droid inside of it when hotel security approached him. He was also supposedly sporting a Disney nametag with the name “David” on it. Despite this, sheriff’s deputies were called because he appeared lost.
Deputies said the man told them he worked for Disney World but was unable to find the staff restrooms, sending them on a search of the Boardwalk area before they finally asked him to produce the ID in his wallet. According to deputies, no such employee could be discovered in Disney databases.
He allegedly went on to say that he had applied for a job with Disney World security and that he had been robbing stores to “highlight holes in the protection of the resorts.” He has been connected to thefts at Disney properties Fort Wilderness, the Boardwalk resorts, and the Grand Floridian, according to deputies. Several of the missing items, including light fixtures and a towel cabinet, were allegedly discovered by deputies at the man’s house.
He is accused of several crimes, including grand theft, fraud scheme, breaking into a building, tampering with a coin-operated machine, and obstructing justice using false information. He is being detained at a jail in Orange County.
