Bailey is seen lying on the beach, partially submerged in water, wearing what looks to be a mermaid suit on the bottom half of her body. Bailey’s shot was taken off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, where the filming took place.
It’s been a long trip for Bailey and The Little Mermaid production. The actress was cast in mid-2019, right before her 19th birthday. However, manufacturing was temporarily halted during the COVID-19 epidemic before restarting in the summer.
“It has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self-doubt/loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end,” Bailey wrote.
“This experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be.”
The film also stars Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Melissa McCarthy as the wicked Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs from Hamilton, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Disney has revealed that The Little Mermaid would contain new (and original) music by composer Alan Menken, as well as lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The release date for the live-action Little Mermaid, on the other hand, is unknown.
The Little Mermaid joins Disney’s increasing roster of live-action remakes, including the well-received Cruella de Vil. Here’s a list of every other Disney live-action film in the works.
