Disney confirms: Captain EO’s to close for good – replaced by 4-D Pixar festival at Epcot

Walt Disney World officials confirmed Friday afternoon that Epcot’s Captain EO will close December 6th.

Disney and Pixar animated shorts will fill the space.

“Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival will include a look into the visionary minds behind some of the world’s most iconic animated films today,” reads the parks’ blog. It will be a 4D experience, according to the post.

Reports about Captain EO’s closure surfaced on social media outlets after someone posted a picture of a poster indicating the attraction’s closure.

The poster features Michael Jackson and other characters from the 1986 film, which highlights Jackson’s interplanetary adventures and elaborate dance sequences.

“Farewell Mission December 6,” reads the poster. “See them change the world, one last time…”

The poster has since been removed from the park’s display.

The 3-D film initially ran at the theme park from 1986 to 1994, and then closed until it returned in 2010 for a “limited run” after Jackson’s death in 2009.

Disney officials did not say when the new attraction will open.
