Disney’s Epcot suffers massive power outage, stopping rides

Walt Disney World guests found themselves in the dark at Epcot on Tuesday because of a power outage.

Disney said the outage happened in part of the park at about 7 p.m.

Many of the rides at the park were closed because of the outage, including Frozen Ever After, Journey into Imagination and Test Track.

Snapshots from Disney’s app showed the attractions as “temporarily closed.”

Disney was able to reopen some of the attractions before the end of the night.

Park guests posted pictures from the park on Twitter. One person took a video showing guests being turned away from Mitsukoshi, the gift shop in the Japan pavilion, because it didn’t have power.

A News 13 viewer sent in a picture of Epcot’s iconic Spaceship Earth sans its colorful lights. She said she was in Mouse Gear when the surge happened, plunging the store into darkness before the backup generators kicked in.

Most of the power was restored by the end of the night, according to Disney.

Disney hasn’t yet said what caused the outage.
