The Pizza Planet restaurant and Pizza Planet Arcade are housed in the same building and both are on the Disney’s Hollywood Studios schedule to close for most of 2016 – January 19 to November 7, 2016.
With the building’s proximity to the new Star Wars Land and its distance from the future Toy Story Land, it’s likely the theme of the location will be changing. The rumor currently getting the most fans excited is a switch to a Muppet themed location. That would not only be a good sign that Muppetvision won’t be closing to make way for Star Wars Land, but also a fun opportunity to use some more beloved Muppets in the park. Back in 2001 Jim Hill wrote an article suggesting that the nearby Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano would actually be redone as “The Great Gonzo’s Pandemonium Pizza Parlor”.
The Great Gonzo’s Pandemonium Pizza Parlor
The Great Gonzo’s Pandemonium Pizza Parlor was an abandoned concept for a Muppet-themed restaurant for Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Florida. The concept was to create a restaurant run by Gonzo and Rizzo.
Part of the original concept was to have animatronics Muppet rats deliver pizza to the tables by way of a “train track” system. Other features from the concept included Gonzo being heard crawling through the duct work along the ceiling, video screens depicting classic Muppet clips as well as the pandemonium in the kitchen (featuring Gonzo, Rizzo and the Swedish Chef), and the occasional explosion, blowing open the doors of the kitchen sending clouds of smoke and chicken feathers into the dining room.
The walls of this restaurant, similar to the lobby of Muppet*Vision 3D, would have been covered with recreations of props from various Muppet films and shows, as well as random sight gags.
