When it comes to Star Wars-themed races at Disney parks, Disneyland Resort in California will be known as the “Light Side,” while Walt Disney World assumes the role of the “Dark Side.”
Disney Parks and runDisney have announced that the Star Wars Half Marathon weekend that debuted at Disneyland last year will come to Walt Disney World Resort April 14-17, 2016.
Known as “Star Wars Half Marathon – the Dark Side,” the weekend will include a 5K, 10K and kids’ races, in addition to the half marathon, which will take runners through Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, before finishing at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
“Ever since we launched the Star Wars race at Disneyland Resort, runners have been clamoring for more, so we’re thrilled to bring the Star Wars franchise together with the runDisney brand to Walt Disney World Resort,” Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice president of Disney Sports Enterprises, said in a release.
runDisney will also introduce the “Star Wars Dark Side Challenge,” where runners can complete the 10K and half marathon on consecutive days for a Death Star-themed medal.
Also new is the Kessel Run Challenge, which combines Star Wars Half Marathon races on both coasts for a commemorative “Coast to Coast” medal inspired by the Millennium Falcon.
The second Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland Resort — known as “Star Wars Half Marathon – the Light Side” — will be held Jan. 14-17, 2016.
